First of all this is a magical location. Like a movie set. Secondly you expect movie set prices. It's really cheap in comparison to other areas but no skimp on quality. We had the steak and salad and it was fabulous with a capital F. Quality compared to price is outstanding.
What let it down on the night for us was the service. Not sure if the guy is new but I don't appreciate ordering a drink waiting up to 10 mins then the waiter to come back to take my husband's order for a drink in order for me to receive mine. I don't need my husband's permission to have a drink. We had been traveling all day and I was incredibly thirsty. Just ordered a coke to soothe my thirst while we perused the food and wine menu. Had to wait a further time to wait for our then 3 drinks. I don't understand why he couldn't just deliver the cola first. To note when we sat down and I tried to order a drink even the neighbouring table tried to call him back to no avail. It was kinda haphazard from there and even when I went to pay the bill so we could leave. (we were a bit on the chilly side cos we left our accommodation when it was red hot) Also after trying unsuccessfully again to make eye contact, I went into the restaurant to pay and I get a shrug and told to deal with his colleague. The colleague who unfortunately seemed to be chasing around his station as well as his own. Anyway. Fab other than that and I only note it cos I feel sorry for his colleague who was doing two jobs.
Anyway to end on a high. I'm not looking to turn anyone off. Just maybe hoping the service will note to be a bit more aware and not walk off when someone is trying to order a drink or at least bring some tap water to the table when people sit down. It really does buy you some time.
Definitely worth a visit. Again the steak (entrecote) was top notch, chips lovely and salad was delicious. We also had dessert. Again one of the nicest we've had so far on the trip. Fab. And a pitchet...
Read moreThis is our 3rd consecutive year staying in Lourmarin and visiting Café Gaby for our evening meal. The previous 2 years we would have our evening meal here every night of our stay, but not this time. We went the 1st evening we arrived expecting a lovely experience........well, what a rude waiter, in terms of his social interaction, I'm not sure if he has a problem with certain nationalities, I say this only because we ordered in our best school French learnt in the 1980s with some pointing at the menu, to be given a dumb expression and a rapid reply in French which we didn't understand, which he didn't want to repeat to us in English, it sounded OK, so we ordered!! Not long after, an American family sat next to us, who definitely didn't know ANY French as they were using a translation tool on their phones before the waiter arrived to workout what the dishes were. The same waiter approached their table with a LARGE smile, asked in French what they would like, they replied in English he answered in English, more obliging towards them, why? He was very abrupt with us, no smile☹️, not friendly, and more to the point he understood and spoke English!!🤷♀️ Plus, I'm not sure where the ham or cheese was in my ham and cheese omelette. Café Gaby has gone down in our estimation, which resulted in us not returning there for the duration of our stay, we chose other restaurants in Lourmarin to eat with better results in...
Read moreReasonable food but poor service. We were seeking lunch on a Wednesday around 2pm. The town centre eateries were all busy, but Cafe Gaby offered a table if we waited 10 minutes. We did, and were then ushered to a table that hadn't yet been cleared. The waiter attempted unsuccessfully to memorise our order, repeating it back with multiple errors. Unsurprisingly, two portions of chips were absent when the meal eventually came, almost an hour after we arrived. I had finished my main course before the chips finally arrived, with an apology but no reduction to the bill. Multiple requests for a refill of the carafe of water were acknowledged but simply ignored. It's a pity they don't reduce the number of tables to a quantity they can service to a high standard (and more profitably too, since we were never offered any further drinks during the meal), as the food was quite reasonable in both quality and price. I'd recommend avoiding this restaurant if it's...
