Nightmarish. I have traveled to France throughout my life and eaten in restaurants both small and large, from Michelin starred to neighborhood bistros. With few exceptions, I have always enjoyed good service and good food. Sapristi is now the #1 worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant in France.
Despite having a reservation and being seated promptly, we waited 1 hour for water and wine. We then finally ordered at the hour and fifteen minute mark and I explained I could not eat dairy. In recent years, I have never had a restaurant in France unable to accommodate or even suggest dishes I could eat. Despite politely asking about the arrival of our food, at the two and a half hour mark, our entrées arrived just as our car was about to take us back to Paris. My mother’s was an unappetizing “crispy egg” which was in fact a soggy breaded egg in a vast quantity of sauce with little evidence of the smoked haddock or apple described on the menu. My “adapted” appetizer was barely edible, smothered in mayonnaise which they explained was instead of the dairy. We finally left after I offered to pay for our wine prior to the food arriving and then offered to pay for the wine and entrées. Despite this, my 86 year old mother and I were followed out of the restaurant for not paying. With two people from the restaurants confronting us and finally explaining that my dairy-free request delayed our food (which was never previously explained), the manager offered us a free dinner the next night. Although this was courteous, we were going back to Paris and could not take advantage of that.
My elderly mother left starving and shaken by the confrontation, ruining the day for her and causing her nearly faint as we drove back to Paris. Overall, it was such a disappointment because we had been looking forward to dining there and the food being served all around us...
Read moreOn my visit with my extended family, we had a terrible experience due to very unprofessional service. The waiter was visibly angry and unacceptably rude to us in several occasions, and she responded particularly bad to feedback. We called and asked before going to this place if they could accommodate gluten allergy for two people in our party and they said yes. On arrival in fact we discovered that everything on the menu contained gluten. The restaurant offered to prepare simplified versions of the dishes without gluten but in fact failed to do so and we had to send food back multiple times. The restaurant also made other mistakes, for example I ordered lamb but I received veal (I chose not to send it back to avoid waiting). On multiple occasions the waiters forgot to bring us utensils or napkins, and they didn't clean the table. Moreover, we had to wait a long time for dishes. Finally, the restaurant overcharged us. There was perhaps some confusion created by the fact two people from our party had to leave with their baby who was suddenly ill, but the restaurant still decided to charge us for more food than what we actually had or received. The restaurant and the waiter didn't apologize nor did they offer a discount. When we made them realize they overcharged us, probably by about 50+ euros, the waiter decided brought us 6 euros in cash. We left more than 10 euros of tip because we think it's customary for a big group, but it was certainly not deserved. Otherwise, the place is in a lovely square. The food is decent, but the dishes are a mix of too many ingredients and the result is actually surprisingly tasteless. I recommend that people with dietary restrictions, groups, and people looking for a gourmet experience, stay away...
Read moreOur visit was a disaster. Avoid if you have a food allergy because some of the staff just doesn’t care. We asked and explained many times that we had to eat without gluten… still they managed to bring us ALL courses with gluten (toasts on the velloute, friend onions on the fish and cookies on the pannacotta). Service was slow and waitress was obviously annoyed by our requests. This is not a choice, this is an allergy. Also, someone from my family had called in advance to ask if they could accommodate food restrictions. Anyways, food was okeish… loads of ingredients, yet no distinctive flavor… The terrace is nice… I guess for a drink and if you are lucky and have a good waiter/ waitress it works… anyways,...
