Pizzeria Fred'Au — Restaurant in Bayeux

Wonderful spot! Hidden gem…we mozied by here the other evening and saw someone served a wonderfully delicious looking personal pizza. We stopped and watched the kitchen where a chef was making a ‘French calzone’ (best I could tell)…so, we gave it a try tonight. The service was immediate, friendly and helpful. The prices quite good (3.50E for a class of Chianti) and the pizza- excellent. Light and all fresh- My husband’s had anchovies, capers, artichoke hearts and mozzarella on a tomato base while mine offered rocket, goat cheese, fresh pesto, peppers and mozzarella on a tomato base. We sat outside- lucked out with no reservation on a Sunday evening, but the place was full in no time and folks were turned away…not sure how anyone gave this less than a 5 as we found the food, service, ambiance and service just wonderful- and we’ve both worked in the...

The pizza itself was delicious and very fast. However, this does not excuse the appalling service we received at this restaurant. We visited on a busy Saturday night, and the restaurant was almost full when we sat down. We waited to order both drinks and food for about 30 minutes; instead of a friendly apology or even a neutral excuse, we were met with "everyone has to wait their turn" in a rude tone, as if our custom were some sort of inconvenience to the staff. We visited on a busy Saturday night. We waited 20 minutes to order our drinks and it was 1 hour before our food came. The pizza was on the small side and the Cesar salad was a some of green leaves, 2 cherry tomatoes and a bunch of deep fried mozzarella. The restaurant is small and loud. That said the staff were friendly and were clearly doing their best to keep up on a very busy night. It was not bad, just not worth the...
