Firstly my favourite cake is gateaux basque!

I have tried nearly every gateaux basque in St Jean de Luz and the surrounding areas over the last 15 years.

So much so I have a grading system for each I try and this is always a 8/9 out of 10!

The crispy, crunchy almost crystallised base and the firm rich cream with a hint of citrus just beats any around.

Don’t whatever you do say you’ve eaten gateaux basque until you have tried these.

And never ever buy them from any supermarket.

awful pastry! The worst ever in France and worst ever I had anywhere . I got a pain raison (a pastry) which tasted days old, was stale and not good tasting at all. They should be ashamed to sell this. And if it wasn't old, it might as well have been because it tasted so bad. What a waste of money and disappointment most of all.. .... Sort the reviews for newest reviews and you will see ALL the newest reviews are bad. Wish I had looked up reviews before buying anything there. But who would think it could be...

Dommage qu’on ne puisse pas mettre 0, surtout au niveau de l’accueil fait par cette jeune femme pour qui le sourire est optionnel. Nous avons acheté une “baguette” basique qui ressemblait à une tradition (je ne connais plus le nom) soit disant cuite environ 1h avant que nous l’achetions. Je pense sincèrement que c’est la pire baguette de boulangerie que j’ai pu acheter, elle était tellement molle et élastique qu’il fallait forcer pour avoir un morceau. Sans parler de la quantité de sel qu’il y avait dedans… alors soit la baguette datait bel et bien d’hier ce qui expliquerait sa texture (pourtant la vendeuse m’a dit qu’elle datait d’une heure) et dans ce cas on prévient les clients, soit le pain de cette boulangerie est tout simplement pas bon.

Quand vous vendez du pain aussi infecte, faites au moins l’effort d’être aimables avec vos clients ou sinon arrêtez de travailler au contact des gens si vous n’en n’êtes...
