Restaurant Txalupa — Restaurant in Bayonne

Too bad there is ZERO star, otherwise this is what this place deserves. Don’t waste your money here.

We were recommended by Grand Hotel Thalasso for dinner (concierge called and made reservation).

The older male waiter was extremely rude and impatient while taking our order even though there were only 3 tables. Menu was in French and I was translating for the rest of my group who did not speak French. Waiter had a bad attitude when we asked for more time and eventually had another server to take our order

On our order were two black angus steaks (one medium rare and other medium well). Both steaks came medium well and overdone. I asked them to please remake my steak as it was too well done. The steak they remade was half the size as the first , yet price remained at 28 Euros.

We ate , made no issue, paid our bill and left . Total bill was 177 Euros - not a cheap dinner. I did let the hotel know of our experience with the restaurant and advised for them to not recommend this restaurant to their guests. It would be a huge disservice as there are better restaurants with better food, nicer staff and more reasonable priced.

Me and my partner (who is a local) ate there this evening 18/9/22.

We decided to eat here as we wanted some crab and this restaurant looked quite nice and was the only establishment to serve crab that we could find.

Unfortunately we were 'greeted' by quite a grumpy waiter who frankly seemed offended by our presence. Nevertheless we continued to politely order our food and drinks. When he brought us our cutlery and plates etc, they were quite harshly dumped/thrown on our table, all the while throwing us quite harsh looks...

We could also feel the tension amongst the other diners as there was silence throughout the restaurant.

We were unable to enjoy our food as this waiter continued to stare at us whilst we were eating, so instead of ordering more food I politely asked for the bill, to which the waiter quite violently snatched away the menus and stormed off.

Overall the experience left me and my partner very upset and annoyed. I would not normally leave such reviews of a business but was offended to the extent I felt I had to say something. I sincerely hope they manage to improve their service as the food was good and it has the potential to be a quality restaurant with a good atmosphere if they could be civil with...

Poorly cleaned glasses (lipstick stains and various other dirt on them) and no hand sanitizer, not even in the bathroom, are No Go in Corona times. Service quite curt and somewhat erratic (meals did not arrive together, desserts were forgotten at first). Prices relatively steep. 3 stars nonetheless because the food was absolutely delicious and beautifully arranged, the meals - albeit obviously prepared fresh - arrived surprisingly fast and the location...
