Café de la Gare — Restaurant in Beaune

We stopped by for a quick breakfast and coffee. The place is cozy and nicely decorated. It is close to the railway lines and not situated in the middle of the town. There are hardly any tourists but plenty of locals, which is always a good sign. The breakfast was (typical for france) sweet and small, but you get to choose the kind of juice and coffee that you like. We didn’t try the food, but there are always two dishes of the day to choose from for just 13€ and when we left there was a large group of construction workers settling in for lunch. So I’d expect the portions to be generous.

We stopped here for lunch on our way to the Alps, it’s about 2 minutes off the A31. Lovely friendly owners, they even translated and wrote down the Plat du Jour in English for us. Food was tasty, buffet starter with different salads and, our main was a grilled pork steak with a generous helping of green beans, and a homemade crème caramel to finish. This felt like a typical “French” lunch spot, with great food and a friendly atmosphere....

A pleasant surprise 15 minutes walk from the the center of town. The day we visited, two 15€ fix price specials were on offer, the first was Veal Marengo, the second a sausage dish. We both had the veal, with a buffet of potato salad, ham salad, ham, shredded carrots to fill out your plat. The veal shoulder was very tender, served with rice and overall excellent.
