I cannot recreate in words how lovely, unique and frankly otherworldly dining here has been. This restaurant is not only an "experience", but that term does not fully explain what was achieved here. I've eaten many meals in my life but few, if any, have been this special.
This is a labour of pure love. A small group of passionate people who took their own love for our collective human history to a level deserving of recognition. The knowledge involved in recreating a tavern of this era is really in the details, and hell, there were SO many details. From the enchanting signals above doorways to ward off evil spirits, to the plates, chalices, wardrobe and meals, it was truly trying to fit in its time.
Eva sat with us, explaining why their menu was what it was. Available in season produce that would have driven menus of their day, served fresh. The flavours, foreign to a modern palette, recreated and rebuilt from recipes and available cooking processes of their time. That attention, care and passion should be awarded. Amongst a modern world to be brought so close to history in an entertaining and fun, REAL way, takes pride and partnership not easily found.
Standing on a chair announcing the menu was a nice touch. The mead and mideval wine is a nice touch. The ambiance was a nice touch, the bathroom (you'll understand when you go) was a nice touch. The wicker chairs, goblets and the forks and knives are a nice touch.
Honestly, I can keep going. Go with an open mind, be a part of what is here and you'll have a great time. I honestly was so shocked to have walked into this place by accident "the name sounded good"/to the rating was high, only to have been a part of this dining magic. Made my dinner, made my day, made my week and it made our trip. Will come again in the future and I advise you don't miss...
Read moreI’ve been a fan of medieval history for a long time, never shared with others except for my closest friends and husband.
By chance, I was looking for a dinner idea in Besançon, and the name “Le Calice Enchanté” simply spoke to me. The photos of the meals looked good, the ambiance of the place was nice. When we arrived, I was enchanted to find out that this place was created out of my dreams.
The owners are spectacular: generous, knowledgeable, skillful - the amount of knowledge and respect towards the medieval period is evident. The food is spectacular - I love the approach for sourcing the ingredients and how the dishes are put together.
We had a wonderful, wonderful time, and I wish them the best with their business and their passion towards everything fantasy and...
Read moreQue dire...
