Very conveniently positioned in the Gare Saint Jean with an entry exit on the street side, with large outside terrace for dining also. You can order lunch from 11 am. This day I hadn’t had breakfast and was looking forward to a tea. I asked for tea with milk. The tea came ( little pot of boiling water and Earl grey tagged tea bag) I asked for the milk again, and twice again after my eyes followed him around the salle. He brought the milk, and if I had spotted he charged me an extra 50 ct for it, I would not have left a tip. So I ordered the plat du jour. Parmentier de canard. It was lovely, shredded duck and toasted Parmesan mash on top, it came with salade verte. I then had thé canellés for dessert. I just ate the inside. If I ate the outside I’d be afraid of swallowing my teeth. Very hard and sticky, (great for pulling fillings out) After that another tea. My train wasn’t for a while. € 9 for 2 teas! You have to keep and eye on them here. He had brought me the wrong dessert, and I told him. It’s a lovely setting, with an extended bar area. If you have the time...

?" Avec un grand sourire. Qu'un service à table me paraîtrait normal.

On September 23rd 2025 visited Le Grand around 8.30 in the morning and had breakfast before leaving for Tours by TGV. Just before we get to Tours I realised that Iv’e left my bag that had our Passport and money at the Cafe. I panicked and took us 2 hours to come back to Bordeaux thinking I have lost our passports. As I went to Le Grand Comptoir and explain how I left my bag, the waiter said let me check. He came back with owner carrying my bag. My passport and everything else were fully intact.

I have to thank the entire staff especially the good looking young man who said he run after me to give me my bag but couldn’t find me. Thank you again you made my trip and Bordeaux extra special. I wish you all...

One of the best kept secrets at one of France's largest train stations, the 'brasserie' at Bordeaux's Gare Saint Jean is easy to miss, but you wouldn't want too. Perfectly situated in the middle of the station with immediate access to the platforms and other services, this quality restaurant & bar serves a wide variety of meals all day long, seven days a week and the service is top notch. The draw here is their wide selection of wines (obviously) served in extra large tasting glasses, try their cheese platter with one! Whenever I go through Bordeaux by train, I always make it a point to stop off and enjoy my last few minutes in this beautiful city.

Convenient little spot for a drink or bite if taking a train ride. It was quiet, comfortable, and fairly priced. If you are a patron, there is a bathroom so that you don’t have to pay the euro down the hall at the public restroom. Only a couple of beer offerings, but this is Bordeaux so more wine on the menu. There is a full menu, but we just got a couple of drinks and kids got a smoothie.
