Madame Li — Restaurant in Bordeaux

We booked a table for 7pm, got there on time and the shutters were down. Eventually we got let in to a plainly decorated place that lacked any kind of vibe. The host seemed nice, and took our order fairly swiftly. Food arrived swiftly, but was a total disappointment. Spring rolls that could be out of a freezer supermarket pack, 2 weird dishes thay were sloppy and strange, and noodles (like how can you get noodles wrong?), that were also lacking in flavour & has a smooshy texture. Thoroughly disappointed, barely haven eaten much of it at all, we asked to have a discount, removing the odd dishes from the bill, to be met with an unwillingness to offer good customer service, only for us to take away the left over food 😂, and to be told that this is a very "special" & "authentic" type of Chinese, and it's "not for everyone". Where all these high ratings came from I don't know?! Will NEVER go back here, & hate that we had to pay for such crap...

What a tasty surprise! This was one of the best dining experiences I have had in a long time. First of all we pre-ordered the lobster (crayfish) and what a feast it was - for the mouth and the eyes! So if you go, please order this beforehand, totally worth it! If you love eating somewhere authentic, where you almost have a sense of tasting the love and compassion that goes into the food, then Madame Li is for you. After our wonderful meal (and we ordered a lot of things so we could taste them all) we met the talented chef. Such a homely vibe. Service was friendly and fast. It was more than reasonably priced and the quality was great. Every dish was delicious. All the stars for this little gem in a weird little street...

Madame Li is everything I want out of a small off the beaten path type of restaurant: an unassuming small space with absolutely delicious dishes (all of them)! Friendly service too. Special highlight of the meal was the spicy crayfish boil!! You need to call at least a day in advance to reserve this dish but it is an amazing blend of Szechuan peppercorn and other spices with a gigantic serving for a reasonable price.
