El Olivo — Restaurant in Caen

The wait staff was courteous, but not necessarily friendly. The restaurant does offer their menu in English via a QR code. We started with an appetizer the "Mixed Exotic" according to the menu it is comprised of Cod Fritters, Chicken Spring Roll and Vegetarian Samosas, instead of the Chicken Spring Roll we received tempora shrimp. Fortunately neither of us is allergic to seafood. The samosas were dripping grease, visible on the serving plate. For entrees we ordered Fish & Chips and Roasted Duck Breast. The fish arrived piping hot, a good sign, however it was very greasy and the chips (fries) were dripping grease. The duck, ordered medium, was slightly overcooked and was not rested before being sliced which resulted in the juices running all over the plate and the duck breast drying out. We will not...

On a flying visit to Caen I was recommended this place by the Uber driver, and I wans't disappointed!

I, Speaking no French, thought it would be tricky ordering, but was offered an English menue. So I appreciate that little touch, really helps out the tourists.

The waiter ( gave off vibes of the boss, but not 100%) was very friendly, even though he was busy, still found time to chat to me about my trip and where I was heading.

The food was delicious and the portion size was very good for the price you're paying!

If there was to be any criticism at all, it would perhaps be that the mash could have been seasoned a little better, but it's negligible in the grand scheme of things.

We found this place via Google reviews while we were visiting Caen. The food was really good, the service was not there. Perhaps, they were understaffed; perhaps, the language barrier (we don't speak French) was the issue but we could never get their staff's attention and couldn't ask for more water or even order a dessert. No one ever took the dishes from our table after we were done or came to check on us after the main courses were brought.
