La Mama — Restaurant in Caen

We passed this by and saw there was a queue and it smelled amazing for on the porch. We finally get to the counter, and our group of 6 people were ordering, 3 couples. 2x couples wanted to split their pizzas but myself and my partner were very hungry and wanted a pizza each, as they do not appear very big. We were told NO-- 1 pizza per 2 people only. Was not aware there was a limit?? The young girl behind the counter tried to explain to us in English which we were grateful for but the only explanation was that was 'not possible'. Then a lady behind us came and picked up 5 pizzas to go! My only conclusion is that they ran out of pizzas and literally didn't have anymore to serve, but why not just say that, as we would have accepted it. Or that they were very busy and it was going to be a long wait, which again. We would have accepted. Very odd service. We had to wait sometime as well which was okay, so we popped round to a small market and bought a few extra things to eat. We took our pizza back to our Airbnb to eat, and it was fine, but was not really worth the fuss of the situation. Restaurants were opening at 1900, we were hungry. Followed the sign down a side alley to La Mama. Opened at 1800 for 'eat in'. Welcome was good, choice to sit outside (very small decked area with a few tables) was accommodated with good service attitude. 4 pizza's, 2 rounds of mixed drinks (large beers and soft drinks) Euro 80. Pizzas were well cooked thin, nothing claggy with fake cheese, too much dough or the feeling the bases were pre made, i'm certain there were not. Saw the bad reviews about the rude owner. Thought "how bad can it be". Well. It was that bad. We walked into a deserted restaurant. We asked if we could order take away. He uttered 4 words "All full. Try tomorrow." And proceeded to ignore us.

If they had explained or apologised that they were full. It would have been fine. But we were clearly ignorant tourists that were not worthy of their time. Only to be scoffed at.

Don't go here. We had friendly service at Charleston and Cote Sable....
