Le Charleston — Restaurant in Caen

Very rude reception! Firstly was told that we were too early for dinner (it was 6.45pm) and they didn’t start until 7pm. It was only 15 minutes to wait so we didn’t mind sitting and having a drink during this time. Waited to be seated and was left standing unsure as to what was happening as the waitress dithered around and finally offered us a table at the window. The restaurant was empty apart from a few people having drinks (winter season so no customers) and I asked if we could sit away from the window with it being cold. It was obvious from the reaction I got that this was too much of a request to deal with as she grumbled to the other staff member that I didn’t want to sit there. I was told with a smirk from the older staff member that as I didn’t have a reservation there was no other option as they only had a table for 4 free which they didn’t want to give us. Looking around at all the empty tables in the restaurant again, I told them good evening and we left. We walked out and straight into the restaurant next door (Papagayo - highly recommended by the way) with staff that seemed much happier to see customers during the quiet season. I was there tonight for a bite to eat after visiting the D-Day landing site. I had the muscles in wine sauce. Wasn't very impressed they tasted just like normal steamed cooked muscles, they were bad enough I didn't even finish them. The waitress dropped my food off and other than asking her one question, she never came back to check on me to see if I needed anything else, which I did. My husband and I attempted to eat here today. We walked in and asked to be seated and were told to sit in a section at the front. We waited to be greeted and get menus for over 10 minutes while the employees stood at the bar talking. The male server then gave 2 women who came in after us menus and ignored us. We waited patiently and still got no services for over 15 minutes so we walked out. The staff as extremely rude, lazy, and do not care. I’d give this restaurant 0 out of 10 and wouldn’t recommend.
