Le Crabe Vert — Restaurant in Caen

I am only giving one star (I would put zero if I could) for the service. We didnt have any chance to try out anything there. So we arrived, we have ordered 2 coffees and we asked for a menu for ice creams, because on the table next to us they got one in the time we were waiting for the waiter. So the waiter when inside and came back with an excuse that the kitchen is closed. So I asked what about our coffees? He only said that its all closed.. so we still were waiting for some minutes in case we misunderstood anything and we would get our coffees at least and what the hell, another table next to us got ICE CREAM and COFFEES!!!!!!!!!!! That was like WHAAAT... are they laughing into our faces or what? So I could not not mention this on google review because this service was humiliating. And its not because of the language barrier, because the table next to us were...

This place was recommended to us by the staff at the campsite we were staying at.

First impression was that inside was a bit dated, and could do with a deep clean. Reminded me of an English greasy spoon from the outside. Tables were a bit sticky, and the high chair for our daughter was a bit grubby. It wasn't terrible, but just enough to make you wrinkle your nose a bit.

The drinks were expensive - 7.2 Euro for a pint lager for instance. Waiting staff were prompt, as they tend to be in France.

The food was the highlight: quite good, bordering on delicious. All the dishes we ordered were very tasty. It certainly was better than expected. The food was expensive though, about 15 Euro for a main of burger, pizza or pasta. There was a kids deal on for just under 10 Euro that made it slightly better value.

All in all, three stars is...

Very disappointing. The chips were old and cold. Remains of a previous order. The fish had a sticky greasy yellow coat, inedible. The mussels were the smallest they could find, and infested with tiny crabs. At a decent restaurant you get a new pan. Here they say it's normal. Even a simple pizza is too difficult for the chef of this restaurant. The fat is dripping off it.

And they don't care at all. If you politely ask a question they don't want to hear, they'll just walk away. The only thing they are interrested is how to get the money as quick as possible.

Horrible place. Walk further, don’t even bother asking...
