Delicious food. Portions were so big that I hardly ate my mains. Not so much a criticism but something to bear in mind if you're ordering! The mise en bouche was flame grilled bread with a fish pate and a pork pate. Absolutely delicious! For starters I had a hot seafood combo in a cheese sauce - again, very delicious and a very large portion that filled me up and kept me from eating my main, which was beef slow-cooked in a red wine sauce with fries and salad. I'm not a fan of fries in France and I barely had any of it. The beef was very tender and tasty. I've decided I really only like beef in a steak or in tacos so I wouldn't order slow cooked beef again, but my partner tried it and loved it (and finished it). Dessert was a delicious chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream. My partner had a fruit skewer, lightly flame grilled, with a heavenly little pot of warm chocolate sauce. My son had moules-frites and said the sauce in the moules was one of the best he'd ever had (my partner concurred). I can't remember what my partner had for his starter and main but he really enjoyed them. The meal was excellent value for money and I would wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant. The service is a bit slow but this seems to be a...
Read moreWe had been travelling by motorbike through France and decided to spend an extra night in Calais, this was a good move as there is so much to see there and the public gardens opposite this restaurant are lovely and really worth a visit. The restaurant was very friendly and the food and wines were excellent. The food is very traditional and if you have room for the set menu it was very good value. The service was very professional but relaxed and you felt welcome and comfortable and could easily spent many hours there - if you didn't have an early start for the tunnel home. I'm sure if we find ourselves in Calais again then this would be our restaurant of choice. Thank you for a lovely last...
Read moreTruly an exceptional experience. Food was delicious, well-portioned and professionally prepared. My partner went for salmon and chocolate mousse with pistachio and I went for Flemish beef stew and a crème brulé - all 4 items highly recommended! Got a free little appetizer, very classy.
Special mention for the warmth of the owner: my partner's French wasn't perfect and he kindly offered an English menu. Moreover: a cycling club arrived and asked if there was place for them, which he graciously accepted and even offered to store their bikes in a side/back room of the restaurant. True hospitality you rarely...
