Mélodie Gourmande — Restaurant in Chambéry

If you happen to be in Aix-les-Bains or if you live here, and hadn't been, then you have to check this local restaurant. The daily set lunch menu during lunch is 15€ 18€ and 20€ for a 3-course meal. You can dine on the terrasse (al fresco) or indoors with air conditioning. The dining area is bright, airy and clean with the kitchen door opened and you could see the kitchen partially. There were 4 of us, 3 of us chose the 3-course set lunch. 1 of us chose 2-course meal. The starter was a Chinese cabbage salad with mustard which was fresh, crunchy and delicious. We dug in without any time for photos. It was beautifully presented with cherry tomatoes, carrots and chopped cabbage. The main dish was pork and it looked very tender and confirmed that it was delicious. Due to my lactose problem the chef proposed a baked saithe fish (lieu blanc) to avoid any lactose (butter) in the pan. It wad delicious, I was not a fan of this fish, but I was utterly smitten. I apologise for the photo, I took a bite and realised it deserved to be photograph to share it here. This is a rare occasion where the chef offered an alternative for a lactose free dish without asking me to choose a dish from the à la carte menu! The same thing for dessert, I had a lactose free dessert which is not a fruit salad! Thank you so much to the chef for his proposal and the delicious dishes! The mousse au chocolate was elegantly presented with several textures, I was told, absolutely a delice! We ordered a bottle of white Macon Village at 25€. Très décevant.

Nous n'avons pas mangé car la carte était, d'une part, incompréhensible (un vrai labyrinthe pour s'y retrouver) et peu fournie. Trois entrées possibles, quelques plats (avec un accompagnement "du jour" uniquement : épinards, blette et céleri pour les viandes). Embêtés car n'aimant pas ce qui était proposé, nous avons choisi de partir. Bien sûr, par bienséance, nous prévenons le serveur pour éviter de juste nous lever et nous en aller.

Le serveur a complètement changé d'attitude et a voulu nous facturer 60€ car "c'est une question de respect, vous aviez qu'à regarder la carte sur internet comme tout le monde".

Nous sommes habitués aux restaurants gastronomiques ou étoilés, la carte change tous les jours (ce qui est d'ailleurs le cas ici) et la plupart du temps une empreinte de CB est demandée pour éviter une perte en cas d'annulation (compréhensible). Ce n'était pas le cas ici et après une menace de violence à peine voilée ("le chef ne vient pas car sinon ça va dérailler") , nous sommes partis.

Incompréhensible. Nous avons essayé de bien faire mais malheureusement nous passons pour les méchants de l'histoire. Nous étions prêts à payer une compensation mais l'attitude du serveur n'était pas compatible. D'ailleurs, il n'a pas cherché à comprendre notre situation pour essayer de trouver des solutions (proposer des pommes de terre en accompagnement ou même des pâtes ....).

We were lucky to find this restaurant open on a bank holiday and warmly received even though it was a 10 minutes before they opened. The food was delicous and very well presented, and I was given a varied and tasty vegetarian plate (such a rare thing in France)! We live in France and this was by far the best meal we have had in a long time. We hope to come back next time we are in...
