Roma Nostra — Restaurant in Chartres

We were walking around Chartres this afternoon and my son wanted pizza for dinner so we made a reservation at Roma Nostra. When we came back to our hotel we read the reviews and were somewhat apprehensive about going. Our apprehension disappeared in minutes after arriving at the restaurant. The barman (who I suspect is the owner) and our server are two of the kindest people I have met at a restaurant in years. Having just spent three days in Paris, the food at Roma Nostra was definitely of higher quality than most of the places we ate at and the cost was ~30% less. Specifically, the wine list is like my high school girlfriend... short and sweet (however the wines are dry and fat, so maybe the metaphor doesn't work!). DO NOT DINE HERE. The staff (apart from barman and one young male waiter) are rude and incompetent. We didn’t get what we ordered and when I made a fuss I was told I was aggressive. At the time of the incorrect order being served at no time did anyone apologise or offer to compensate. All we were told is that they could replace the pizza. (Meaning we would have to wait another 20 minutes and hence not dine together). My partner hates waste so he felt bad and offered to keep the wrong order. The entire situation would have been avoided IF the manager had apologised. All he needed to say was “I’m really sorry it’s the wrong pizza and if you are happy to have it I would be very grateful”. Simple really. Instead it was my problem as I didn’t like the lack of apology or gratitude and hence I complained. Only to be told I was aggressive. All staff here (apart from Barman and young guy) could benefit from some training in customer service. Worst...

You get plenty of food. Pizzas were big, but tasteless. The server could clearly understand English, but made no attempt to assist a group of 8 people, from 5 countries (we are used to dealing with language difficulties and very easy to please), We had 6 pizzas between us, most of which were edible, but of no real quality. The two people who had salads were pleased. Worst food and worst service we've had in France so far (far less polite than Paris, or anywhere else we had seen). The recommended wines were acceptable.
