We know that Port Grimaud is not the capital of bouillabaisse, but we still wanted to enjoy this speciality from the south of France during our trip there. We looked for a suitable restaurant in advance so as not to fall into a tourist trap. Unfortunately, exactly the opposite happened. The prawns for starters were still defrosting on our plate, dry and almost inedible. Even if they come from overseas, you can find them fresher at any market. The "façon Bouillabaisse" stew, which was supposed to console us for the disappointment of the starter and cost a hefty €49 per person, left us in no doubt that La Marée was unfortunately no exception. No rouget as listed on the menu, but other fish (good taste), three mussels that were either closed or inedible (according to the waitress only decoration anyway) and two large potatoes filled the soup in the plate. When we expressed our disappointment to the waitress, she explained "that the soup alone costs 15€ and that 250g of fish had been used. Besides, an authentic bouillabaisse costs 60-80€," which we are happy to pay if the quality is right. Unfortunately, our hotel confirmed the next day that the restaurant was not the best choice. (Tip: ask for recommendations at the hotel, you're usually on the safe side). On a side note: we know seafood and fish very well from regular stays in Brittany and southwest France. Knowingly being taken for fools like this is not a good advertisement for the region either....

We have been going to Restaurant LA Marèe since it opened and normally love an evening here of great seafood and shellfish but something has changed and we just can't understand what. On our recent visit we noticed the menu has changed much smaller than normal. We didn't have the selection that normally is offered. There was only 1 guy serving everyone in the restaurant which made things very slow. The food we ordered was good but definitely not the standard it normally is. I really hope they go back to their amazing menu they...

Quaint little seafood restaurant with a fantastic location in Port Grimaud. We went to La Marée for a lunch reservation - the service was friendly and the food was tasty. Their Marmite du Pêcheur was rich in flavour with a variety of different fish and seafood, the only thing was that some of the fish still had quite some scale on it. Keep in mind that the restaurant is small with only a few tables inside and outside (their Saint Maxime location is significantly larger).

The grilled sardines and bouillabaisse were both fantastic. We could drink the bouillabaisse for lunch and dinner… it was so fresh and light and aromatic. Wow! We had really lovely and attentive service as well. There was a restaurant just a couple of doors down from this one that was quite a bit busier, and so we almost skipped going to La Marée, and we’re so happy that we didn’t!
