Café de la Poste — Restaurant in Grasse

2.5 ⭐️ Booked a table on the main square in Biot - perfect Idilic setting and very atmospheric. The service at Cafe de la Post started okay but as soon as it got busy it just seized completely. We had to keep reminding them to bring us more water, more wine etc. The whole night was really disappointing as it was a special occasion and we were really looking forward to a lovely evening out.

The first course came pretty quick (beautiful salads) and was promptly cleared. But then we waited and waited, and after almost an hour patiently waiting for our main meal, we were told that they’d forgotten about us (?) and and they apologised. Great, they realise the error and now things would be back on track right? No, Wrong. When our mains finally did arrive we asked for some mayonnaise and some mustard to go with the steaks and the fries - sadly it never arrived even though they said it will be here right away. After another 30 min we had to flag down a staff member to clear our mains as they’d seemed to have forgotten us again. At this stage we were 2.5 hours in and we’re ready to leave. I think part of the problem is that as it got busier, they kept putting out more tables & chairs to accommodate new arrivals and the staff were already drowning and chaos ensued. €250 for a largely disappointing night out. Perfect lunch at Café de la Poste. Beautiful setting in the village square. Excellent shade provided by a combination of trees and umbrellas. Fantastic service by all the waiters. Excellent choice on the menu, though we went for the tasty plate of the day which was mixed grill with high quality meats. Nice to see wine options included 50cl bottles and left at your table in a proper ice bucket keeping it perfectly cold. Dessert recommendation - try the cafe gourmand. The three little desserts were all proper desserts made in the restaurant and mini versions of the regular menu. As a family we had lunch here and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the dishes they ordered. The beef and lamb melted in the mouth. Those having the fish rated it very highly. One of our youngsters sampled steak tartare for the first time and was very impressed.The staff were very attentive. One gentleman had an extraordinary knowledge of fine Scottish malts. He recommended a Japanese one which I will try at some stage. I hope to repeat the experience and would recommend this restaurant, both for the quality of food and the lovely staff. The setting...
