L'escale — Restaurant in Grasse

I went here with my husband and children to have a nice lunch before heading to the beach. We ordered one kids meal and two fish meals. My son’s food came in within 5 minutes. We waited and waited for our food but no sight of our food. We were among the first guests and the restaurant was getting more and more guests and they ordered and also received their food. After 40 minutes the waitress comes and asks me if I want dessert. I just stare at her and she looks at the table and says something in French and runs off to the kitchen. Then our food came within 5 minutes. My kids were getting impatient and so I had to eat alone as my husband had to get out the restaurant to not bother other guests there, and then he came back and I had to go out so that he could eat his lunch. The waitress said that it takes 20 minutes to cook fish which obviously isn’t true. If you grill fish it goes faster than if you grill meat but whatever. Just want to say this to the employees in the restaurant: if you mess up, you can just admit it. No one will bite your head off. It’s called being professional. Food was okay, way overpriced. We had a booking for 8.30pm, we arrived and were told pur booking was at 9pm. They were running extremely late and the restaurant was busy as can be. We stood there with my disabled mum for almost half an hour and finally got a table just before 9pm. We waited another 30 min for our order to be taken. We asked for a bottle of wine and they asked me to taste it. Turns out their Chablis was very acidic but they refused to bring another wine. 'Vous l'avez commandée maintenant vous la buvez ou alors j'appelle la direction' LOL their wine was less than average and acidic for 43 euros but we were the ones who were going to be in trouble :) The pasta was good. The mains had been forgotten which means we had to wait over 30 minutes again after the end of the starters. The salmon tartare was tasteless and the fries cold. All and all, this is not the pinnacle of even remotely good French cuisine, some dishes are good, some are less than average. Service is bad, bad faith is high. What can I say? If you get lucky on a less busy day and go for pasta, maybe it's okay, For us it was once, not twice. All this for over 140 euros for 3 people, no...

The food I got (grilled lamb chops) was 'ok' in the quality, but the service was really bad. The waiter mixed up several of our orders, and when we finally got our food (didn't take too long at least, maybe 15-20 min.), two of us who had ordered mussels got the message that the restaurant had run out of mussels so they had to order something else! So they ordered a sallad to get it quite fast (which they did). But two of us were still waiting for the main course when the rest of us had almost finished eating, some 20-25 minutes later! So they had to ask what happened to their orders. The waiter just left to check it, and came back with the food some ten minutes later without any excuse at all. Finally when we waited to pay the check (at least they gave us separate checks which we had asked for, that's a plus), it took ages for them to come back and take payment with credit cards, I think we waited 30 minutes for that.
