We went there with high expectations due to the good reviews and beautiful pictures of their dishes. This gave us the impression we could expect to have a similar experience for dinner. However, we arrived and it seemed like the head chef had left the premises. All we could order was hummus, fries and toasted sandwiches. They did come up with one vegeterian alternative ingredient, but also as meat lovers I wouldn’t get your hopes up. À mi chemin entre la cantine de quartier et le bistrot convivial, le Café Augustin, situé rue de Valenciennes à Lille est un resto où je prends plaisir à venir seule ou accompagnée.

La salle est lumineuse, la hauteur sous plafond donne un volume très agréable, le tout invite à la discussion autour d’un bon verre de vin ou d’une bière en attendant tranquillement de déjeuner.

En cuisine, c’est Marie qui officie et là, accrochez-vous, inventivité, créativité, recettes de bistrot revisitées. La carte imaginée par Marie fait mouche chaque semaine. Lors de ma première venue, j’avais craqué pour ses cannellonis qui s’étaient avérés plus que parfait. Pour mon dernier passage : le labneh agrémenté d’œufs de truite et d’algue nori était un mélange de douceur et de saveurs iodées quant à mon risotto il était fondant et relevé par des pleurotes grillées divines et des épinards sauvages, ma voisine de table avait choisi la tempura de lieu noir, croustillante et moelleuse, elle s’est elle aussi régalée.

En fin de repas, j’ai savouré mon double espresso, préparé avec le délicieux café de Café Muda.

L’équipe en salle est très sympathique, Augustin bien sûr mais aussi Léna et Jeremy.

Cette belle harmonie entre chaleur humaine, carte renversante et douceur du lieu, font déjà du Café Augustin une référence dans le quartier.

Le soir, l’ambiance peut devenir plus festive avec notamment des concerts de jazz le deuxième mardi de chaque mois ! J’ai hâte d’assister à la session de novembre ☺️
