Good for a group, wouldn't do a date there. Many vegetarian options but be careful, the tastes can be very eclectic. The kind of cuisine I can do at home, good for a night you don't want to cook honestly. Not really your grans cooking though. The meat wasn't the best for the Parmentier (a little shuwy) and the Tempura vegetables were kind of tasteless without the salsa ... And maybe that's why there was so much sauce in the plate. The cheese plate was way too small for the price (I understand choosing good pieces but this was a little too expensive for so little quantities). And the wine by the glass left us a little disappointed. Not a good match with the meals and even by itself.. I think I'll look at bottles next time, maybe that will be better.
Too bad cause the place is lovely, very nice music, good wine bottles selection and the service was great. Very welcoming too.
-- answer to the owner (i can't comment otherwise but i wanted to clear out some things)
Hi, Thanks for answering, I appreciate your time. As requested , I'll clarify some points.
We came because we wanted the sharing experience. We knew, and we shared things and we enjoy sharing our dishes so that's not an issue.
My "group instead of a date" remark is deeply linked to the following line about the diversity of the dishes. I wasn't commenting on their originality but how diverse and ecletic the dishes on the menu were. It was hard to find multiple things both of us could share and wanted to eat. If we had been 3 or 4 around the table it would've been easier to find things we can share without any waste. That's all.
I love to cook, and I love going to restaurants. I believe most of the things you serve, can be done at home and that's not a bad thing. Also, it's always fun to go out and not have to do the cooking so I'm just commenting on that. No big deal. I respect the work of the Chef, coming from a family and friend group with multiple people working in restaurants, one even as a chef, I know it's not an easy job. Sorry if my review offended you or her.
About the Parmentier, however, honestly I wish you hadn't said that you knew about the meat issue. I don't understand the logic of expecting people to complain to give them a discount. It might just be me, but that's weird. And when you asked if all was fine, we answered yes because it was that : fine. Nothing was outright horrible but it wasn't perfect yes, that's life.
About the Tempura, thank you for the list but I won't be making it. My tempura is seasoned enough that I don't need to rely on sauce to make my vegetables tasty. Also, using seasonal vegetables helps to make sure they are tasty.
About the Cheese, read my comment again. I didn't criticize the quality or request store sold products. I just thought the pieces were way too small for the price. Maybe only serve 2 cheeses for 7.5€ with larger portion to fit your budget, and keep your great quality and great ethics. Then it won't feel as expensive for so little. I love cheese, my partner too, and we liked what we discovered but i'd rather have 1 good piece of a very good produce than small-ish bites of multiple products and feel like it wasn't enough.
About the wine, please read my comment again too. I clearly wrote that the wine per glass was an issue but the wine bottle selection was very good. You do have a beautiful wine bottles list and good bottles in your restaurant. However, we tried 3 glasses of wine out of your list, 7€ each, and they all disappointed us. Maybe it's the wine itself that night, maybe it was a poor combination with the meal. But that's just our experience as people who usually enjoy wine at the restaurant.
Next time, we'll try something on your bottles list, come with friends, and try a wider selection of things. It's okay. Have a...
Read moreWe visited with friends towards the end of our trip, drawn by recommendations and positive online reviews, so our expectations were quite high.
We started outside, enjoying some delicious bread, olives, and a serving of saucisson with gherkins, all complemented by local wines and drinks. The menu offered a good variety.
We opted for several dishes to share and mostly individual focaccias. The shared plates were a mixed bag; I particularly enjoyed the broccoli guacamole alternative and the asparagus.
However, we found the lentil falafel a bit lacking in flavour, with a softer texture than traditional chickpea versions. Unfortunately, the focaccia was quite stale, which was a real disappointment for all of us. Despite this, did enjoy the overall flavours of the meal. For dessert, I had a fromage frais with fruit coulis. While the concept was good, found it a little too bitter for my personal taste.
The service and atmosphere were definite highlights. They played some classic 80s music, which created a lovely vibe throughout our meal.
Overall, this restaurant shows a lot of promise, and feel we might not have experienced it at its absolute best. Based on the food, it just managed to nudge past a three-star rating to a...
