Gastronomic delight.. My French Family said they would give me a gastronomic delight to remember my last night in Lyon by.. what had they planned. And so they brought me to this quaint and full-of-charm restaurant. A little pricier that quite a few of the many eateries in the area, though I will say this time – it was well worth the little extra. A varied menu and your choice to have either a ‘set choice’ or go individual –which gave an even bigger choice. Though we (6 of us) had various Starters,Main,Dessert mine was as follows. Homemade chicken liver, with pork terrine and mixed baby greens (Fine terrine de foies de volaille vinaigrette a l’ancienne) But that was not all….. After the Entrees, the Waiter produced two plates – each covered and placed them on the table.. and with great theatrical gusto unveiled … Escargots …. Snails !!!! Where do I begin… O’h Lord no… but then I started to think back.. I have tried Clams (which are ‘similar’), Widgety Grubs, Jelly Fish even Baby Octopus and enjoyed them all… Sooooo. We all, barring my Uncle ‘tucked into Traditional Burgundy snails in garlic and parsley butter (Escargots de Bourgogne au beurre persillé maison) I was very surprised to find they were quite edible and nutritious and the butter with Garlic certainly took my mind (and taste buds) off anything ‘nasty’. Next to follow and their second ‘surprise’ Pigs Trotters or Breaded pig’s trotter loaf, mushrooms with fresh herbs and veal sauce (to be precise) (Gratin d'andouillette des Fines Gueules à la fondue de poireaux) Eyebrows and BIG smiles all around with my Family (because they wrongly assumed I would not know what they were). As I was tucking with relish I informed them that I used to enjoy steamed/boiled Pigs Trotters many years before. Finally ..the Dessert Goats Cheese and Truffled Honey (Chèvre frais et miel aux truffes) Never tried with Honey… and it worked really really well.
The staff were so attentive and even apologised for the, at times noisy diners sat almost opposite. A return visit would surely be listed..
(Apologies for extreme lateness of review, I thought i had...

During our recent family trip to Lyon—a city where gastronomy is not just a tradition but a way of life—we had the immense pleasure of dining at LES FINES GUEULES, a culinary gem nestled in the heart of the city. This restaurant is not only centrally located, making it incredibly accessible for both locals and visitors, but it also serves as a proud standard-bearer of traditional southern French cuisine, with a distinct and spectacular flair from the Lyonnaise terroir.
From the moment we stepped inside, we were embraced by the warmth of the ambiance and the equally warm welcome from the staff. The service was nothing short of exceptional—attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the food they serve. Our waiter took the time to guide us through the menu with thoughtful recommendations, pairing each suggestion with a brief, engaging story about its origin or preparation.
Now, on to the main act—the food. Every dish that graced our table was a symphony of southern france
As part of the esteemed Les Toques Blanches Lyonnaises, LES FINES GUEULES is not merely endorsed—it is celebrated. And deservedly so. It offers an experience that transcends the plate, combining authentic regional flavor, culinary artistry, and heartfelt hospitality in equal measure.

Read moreMy friends and I came to the restaurant on Saturday 2nd April 2022 at around 1:30pm and sat at the table left handside from the entrance (The reason I specify is for the management to know which one of their staff we interacted with). As we entered the restaurant, I had inquired if they serve mulled wine to which the bartender answered "haven't you checked the menu? we don't". Okay fair enough, let's sit down. They were closing the kitchen in half an hour so the waiter stood next to us the whole time while we were checking the menu and said "hurry, we close the kitchen in half an hour, hurry" He never gave us time to look or read the menu...My friend and I wanted warm drink and the other friend wanted a three course set menu. The waiter said "this is not a coffee shop, either all of you eat or leave". They had plenty of empty tables and no customers queuing so they could have accommodated if they wanted to. I inquire if they serve any soups to which the waiter snaps back at me "do you see any in the menu? no? that means we don't have it". Very rude staff, extremely insensitive, extremely disrespectful. It was not as much about what he said, but the way he said it was snappy, rude and so bad-mannered. There's plenty of restaurants in the area, so please don't settle to eat in this place with such disgraceful...
