Wonderful small French restaurant right in the centre of Mâcon, behind the Hotel de Ville, next to the church. When you enter you will be greeted by your host Marion and in the back you will see chef Davide in his open kitchen. The old wine cellar had been turned into an amazing cosy place to dine. When the weather is good seating is moved right outside so you can enjoy the sights and weather.
The menu, which may change every day, has two choices for every course, everything is locally produced and incredibly fresh. Probably bought by Davide that same morning. Basically everything is excellent. However if one of them says 'della Nonna' do yourself a favour and get that one! If you're not sure about an aspect of a course: Just ask. Davide has an amazing ability to tweak his creations. If you enjoy that sort of thing I highly recommend the chef's surprise menu. Or take it to the next level and reserve the chef's table where the food is prepared right in front of you.
Marion will hand you a very extensive wine list, but if you really enjoy wine, don't open it! Instead tell Marion, who's also a sommelier, what you're in the mood for and ask what she would recommend to accompany your dinner. Feel like red wine with your seafood? You'll be amazed by her recommendation.
I highly recommend the cheese platter either in between main and dessert or, if you prefer savoury over sweet, instead of dessert. Again all local products. Do eat in the recommended order though!
The restaurant is open most days for lunch and dinner. If you want to be sure of a table do make a reservation in advance. Especially during the weekend the restaurant tends to...
Read moreWe had a chance to sit at the counter and watch Davide work, which was fun. There are a lot of special touches to the food, for example verbena Greek yogurt based whip on the dessert, incredibly fresh vegetables. Davide and his wife made an effort to engage with us and speak English, despite managing a full house.
We ordered the homemade seafood pasta, beef charlois, veal, apricot sable and olive oil cake. The veal and vegetables were delicious. I personally found the pasta and desserts a bit dry and the nice beef overpowered by its condiments. My partner did not.
I’m not sure how representative our experience was, as due to our lack of French I think we misunderstood the fact that there was a set menu and did not order much. Or perhaps it was an off night but the atmosphere was tense.
I have to agree with others that 2 euros is a lot to charge for filtered water, I’d rather have paid more...
Read moreAmazing food and service! We ordered Surprise menu and everything tastes great! We can feel the best hospitality from chef and wife and both of them speak fluent English, so there is no communication problem. Wine list is good enough and you can definitely choose something to pair with your food. Finally I am so surprised with the style of tiramisu too! It’s not the traditional style but this new version is more light and mossy, so good! Thank you for giving us an impressive...
