To enjoy Ekume, you first need to understand the chef's concept of food, a narrative worth learning about. I ordered the 6 course immersions menu with wine pairings. The food and experience of the palette builds slowly, hitting the high notes in the 5th course and leaving you impressed with an excellent dessert. It’s also perfectly timed despite the small size of kitchen and staff. The first two courses were slightly under-seasoned, but this was made up for in the later rounds, where a clever and complex mix of flavours and textures were brought to the plate in balance. I found the wine pairing rather weak and the wine selection was not well explained and presented to the diner. Otherwise, the service is very professional and friendly, and the chefs greeting guests adds a personal touch. Overall, Ekume describes an elevated cuisine that challenges you to enjoy a simple yet complex fine dining experience. Some of the dishes are still evolving and I think presenting the concept of menu and strengthening the wine pairing along with the storytelling could further refine the overall experience for the diner. Read moreWe had a lovely dinner at Ekume, opting for the six-course tasting menu (including two desserts) at around €125 per person. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared — the seasoning was precise, and the textures of each ingredient were beautifully handled. The flavors were well-balanced and layered, showcasing solid culinary technique.
The service was also very professional. Both the waitstaff and the sommelier were polite, attentive, and respectful throughout the meal. Even though we opted for soft drinks rather than wine, they remained gracious and welcoming, which we truly appreciated.
That said, the menu leaned more toward refined execution of simpler ingredients rather than premium or luxurious ones. While everything was delicious, it would have been even more memorable with the inclusion of some higher-end seafood items like large prawns, lobster, or scallops. Personally, I would have been happy to pay a bit more for that upgrade.
All in all, it was a very enjoyable and worthwhile meal, with just a bit of room to grow — especially if the ingredient selection is elevated to match the high...
Read moreWe had a truly amazing experience at Ekume. The menu, the ambience, the wine pairing…all a truly unforgettable experience.
The menu felt lovingly crafted with interesting and unique choices made throughout. There was a clear mastery on show, of both technical skill and inventiveness.
But just as importantly the overall experience with the whole of the team that works there was what made this a 10/10 experience. We chose the chefs table option and despite knowing no French we had such a welcoming conversation with various members of the team.
Sara was a superstar as host and sommelier. She was so friendly and made sure we enjoyed not just the food, her excellent wine choices but also just the experience of being in the restaurant. The atmosphere and vibe of the place was fantastic and it has shot to the top of the list of one of my favourite restaurants in the world.
I’m coming back to Marseille again and a big part of why is to come dine here again. Don’t miss out on this place, a truly memorable experience.
