Mercato X Winesucker — Restaurant in Marseille

We tried this place during our stay in Marseille. It's a very nice place, with very soft lighting. Perhaps a little sparsely furnished, but it has a very personal style. We sat down right away. We didn't receive a wine list, so we opted for two glasses, which then became four, chosen by the waiter. The food menu changes frequently. We ordered an aubergine and peppers, which I must say were exceptional. The only flaw was the service. The waiter never came to the table, so I had to go and ask him for various items. The ideas for the dishes were good, but the execution could improve. A delicious soup with massive chunks of pumpkin, would have been great with smaller pieces so it didn’t splash everywhere. Same for the lentil, onion and tomato salad, which could not be enjoyed in one bite due to the big chunks. The eggplant dish and fig dessert were tasty but lacked texture, some additional crunch (some nuts or more of the puffed rice) could have brought it all together. If vegetarian food and natural wines are your jam: this one is for you! The venue is cool and laid-back, the people friendly and attentive, but the freshness of the food and the carefully selected wines take the cake. At first we were a bit surprised since there’s no wine menu, but the sommelier knows what’s good. Price/quality, this is a must visit, off the beaten track. It was very calm when we were there and they definitely deserve a full house, but guess that’s what makes it a bit of a hidden gem, far away from mass-tourism....
