SAGE — Restaurant in Marseille

Very overpriced, over hyped and underwhelming. Service was bare minimum.

I ordered the Tartare de veau de l’Aveyron, tonnato citronné and asked the waiter if it tasted a lot like tuna. I ended up having to switch plates with my friend because it was overwhelmingly fishy to the point I could not taste anything else but a fishy tartare. The entree was the Courgettes violon, burrata, groseilles & foccacia aux olives. The focaccia was blend, the burrata not incredible. For a restaurant that is proud of sourcing quality products in a radius of 100km around Marseille the quality was barely there. For the dessert, I had the Sorbet chocolat, brownie, mousse chocolat noisette & sablé chocolat. Once again underwhelming. On the bright side, my friend had the Pêche blanche pochée au thym, sorbet pêche et amandes which was the best thing we had all night.

Hands down one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The food was delicious and full of flavour. The menu has been really thoughtfully created and focuses on local ingredients and dishes with an unexpected twist. Louis-Valentin (our waiter and I think head of front of house) was really friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and gave us excellent recommendations on both food and accompanying drinks. If you're in Marseille and want a great meal out that is fancy but not pretentious, I'd recommend Sage. Well worth the money. And the restaurant...

Quite honestly one of the best meals i’ve ever had. Had dinner here 3 nights ago and both my partner and myself have not stopped talking about how great the whole experience was. Food was perfect and the emphasis on local/in-season ingredients really shined through in the dishes. The presentation was beautiful as well. The wine pairing recommended by the waiter was also flawless. I would not change a single thing about this dinner. Sage is reason enough to return to Marseilles!...
