Muchacha — Restaurant in Montpellier

We were invited for a birthday party in that place, we have mixed feelings about the place. I wouldn’t recommend this venue for birthdays. My friends and I were very upset with the organization. We had seen the staff on other occasions putting on hats and bringing flames around the tables, which we assumed was part of a birthday celebration. However, we found out that this is just something the restaurant does every night at 11:00 PM and not related to birthdays at all.

Regarding the birthday cake, we learned too late that you need to reserve it 48 hours in advance. Despite this misunderstanding, my friend asked for the birthday gesture, but it wasn’t possible, even though the cake arrived just before 11:00 PM.

Beyond that, the food was underwhelming. The tapas we ordered were bland, and the drinks were off. I ordered a Piña Colada, but it tasted strange with passion fruit, which I hadn’t requested.

The atmosphere was lively, but also unbearably loud. Even when we were singing "Happy Birthday," we couldn’t hear ourselves over the noise. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend celebrating your birthday here. The hats and dances are part of their regular routine, not a special...

I always come to Muchacha and it is my favorite place in Montpellier where I always bring friends and guests.

However , this time I had the worst experience specially around service. We were given the table to the right of the entrance, a bit isolated. We waited 30 minutes and no waiter was coming to take our order. Everytime we call someone they say it is not their area and we should wait. Then I had to leave my table, go look for the waiter and ask her to come take my order !

Then our drinks came very late because apparently there was no more cups available. How is it possible for a place like Muchacha to run out of cups ?

Third, the food came but without plates and cutlery. Again we had to ask 10 times to get the plates and cutlery. When we had them, the food was cold and we had to eat our meal cold !

Possibly the worst food in Montpellier. Had a Saint Germain spritz (very weak), empanadas (dry, nearly inedible), guacamole (poorly mashed, incorrectly seasoned, served with the kind of tortilla chips you'd give your 5 year old), quesadillas (very burnt and underfilled), charcuterie board (some decent meats but flavorless cheese and an inedible mystery ceviche), and bbq buns (good buns but underseasoned meat and sauce stupidly spread on top making it hard to eat). Servers were very nice but they seemed understaffed. Very loud music. I think people go here for the music...
