Avant Garde — Restaurant in Nîmes

Delicious, elegant and truly avant garde dining, wonderful hard-working young owners, in the midst of a sea of tourist-oriented restaurants, this was an absolute gem of a discovery! After 3 weeks in Provence, this was the best overall meal and dining experience. Looking for something unique and delicious, we found this spot just off the city centre square. We sat outside among families and couples. The server spoke enough English to match our limited French, and made excellent recommendations for wine and food. The wine (Cicada white) was delicious and matched our entree (burratta with figs in a red pepper sauce) and mains - white fish with creamed pepper and pea sauce, and grilled octopus in pepper sauce with zucchini and aioli. High quality food with a friendly service. Small, cosy interior. The menu consists of gourmet plates and higher end cuisine, such as ; scallops with champagne mousse and a parsnip purée. Unfortunately some items on the menu still seem overpriced. The aforementioned scallops cost 22€ for a serving of 5 small scallops with a half ladle of the mousse and purée each side. We chose this restaurant because of its great reviews and we never write bad reviews but this was a really disappointing experience. The food was cold when it came out, then had to be re-heated and still wasn’t hot.
