Midi à l'ombre — Restaurant in Nîmes

My family has eaten at this gem of a restaurant a few times over the past three or four years. We keep going back because the atmosphere is great, the food excellent and the service impeccable.

The meal we had at the end of May 2019 was the best yet. The starter os scallop carpaccio cured in vodka (pictured) was my star dish but the steak I had for my main was also perfect. I'm not usually a pudding person but the sorbet flavoured with rosewater and strawberries was perfect for me.

We had a bottle of red wine with the meal - L'Absolu from the Domaine St Firmin, which is maybe 200 metres from the restaurant. It was amazing - I've had wine from St Firmin before, but none as good as this.

Really pretty outdoor garden and lovely food presentation. But the quality and freshness of the food were really poor, particularly for the price charged - €40-50 pp without drinks. We had the surprise platter and the mussels were not fresh, and when we mentioned this to the waitress to check the freshness with the chef, there was no action taken on the feedback. The entrees were okay but a bit bland, but the mains were really not done well - the lamb curry was overcooked, dry and bland; and the fish was also overcooked and served with an assortment of ingredients that looked pretty but did not fit well together from a taste...

Truly a remarkable restaurant .. probably the best chef in Uzès .. the quality of the cuisine and garden dining area are just wonderful .. I greatly appreciated the friendliness of the staff and their advice on dishes and wine .. and most of all the visit from the Chef who explained the choice of ingredients in his magic recipes .. simple and kind and highly professional without pretentious airs.
