My first time to ever try Socca, and I found it quite good! I tried the original socca here and was really amazed by how subtle but good this local delicacy is! I never saw this anywhere else I've traveled outside of France, so it was a simple but amazing experience. It went down well with draft beer the staff recommended. They were very friendly and helpful with communicating with me in English. You could tell they loved their jobs and the restaurant. We arrived just as it opened at 11:30am and not long after several others started to come in on a Wednesday morning! They have a large establishment, quite roomy, spacious and well designed. However, there's only one unisex restroom for the whole restaurant. Good outdoor street seating, too. Note that socca is something many people will enjoy, but others may find it insufficient to satisfy a hungry or hearty appetite. While they have other bread and salad dishes here, don't expect too much of a full blown meal. It's a good light bite or something to enjoy with good company and drinks (or kids).

As we arrived (c.21:30) there was a queue out of the door but we were quickly seated and warned that the tradition socca may take 1 hour as it is made in a special way. The restaurant was packed and had good vibes. We didn't have to wait too long for our first plate - maybe 30minutes - we tried the socca with green onion, one with peppers and lastly with parmigiano - the latter was my favourite - I recommend! Each variety came with 4 slices. We then waited c.15 minutes for our double portion of traditional socca (see photo although some already eaten!) - 8 slices. It was a lot of food so we took half away! 3 portions of the flavoured socca (12 slices total) is enough for 2 hungry people. For drinks there are a selection of beers or if you are GF then cider (sweet or dry) - i tried both and much preferred the dry - the sweet one is way too sweet! Also local wine of course. I have tried socca before in Italy (known as farinata) and have also made it at home, and unfortunately I wasn't blown away by the socca here.

Chez Pipo is a great place to relax from the blustery weather outside (or at least it was so on the date of my visit). The wait staff was attentive and informative. For example, they rescued my marriage from being obliterated by the whimsical cartographers of the Nice travel map. The map shows a tram stop at the Lymphia port; however, after wandering around for 30 minutes and querying many residents with an irate travel partner, we gave up our hope of returning to our hotel and went to Chez Pipo. The waiter was kind enough to enlighten us with the knowledge that the tram stop in the port did not exist, but was planned for sometime in the next decade. It was a most fortuitous of events because the traditional socca and other food is wonderful. Earlier in the day, a street vendor was selling socca to a delighted few while a large crowd clamored around. There's no need for that- just please stop by Chez Pipo instead!

A Nice institution - since 1923 - offering the local speciality socca to locals and tourists alike in a quiet part of the old port. Crowded and busy, but there is method in the madness, and the dishes - we tried three kinds of docs after some delicious starters - came on time and with grace. The socca was delicious and light with subtle flavours and a crisp texture. Well worth the long walk from our part of town. Service was brisk but friendly and prices very reasonable. The tarte de blette dessert - with the odd combo of silverbeet (chard), apple and pine nuts was also delicious and worth trying.

Even though only the Socca is Gluten Free, I still rated this place as top rated due to the quality and taste of the Socca and their Lemon Sorbet dessert. There’s such good flavour in there specialty of the house that it would be hard to improve it. Also limited risk of cross-contamination due to the way they prepare the Socca and cook it in the oven. The service was great and it was very busy, so a lot of people think likewise about the quality. The only thing that would be nice is to have a GF beer offering. Would definitely recommend checking Chez Pipo out and we’ll go there again!

This was very close to our stay and was a place buzzing. It was so busy and it’s understandable why, as they serve authentic Nicoise food. We got the socca with parmigiana and eggplant as well as the red pepper one which were really delicious. The passaladiere was the highlight, it’s sort of like a pizza with caramelised onions on top. The service was quite slow and the staff were overworked, more people should really be hired to help with that. Our meal was about €15 and this place is a great little snack on your day of exploring!
