La Popote D'Ondine — Restaurant in Nice

I wish I would have taken pics, but the food was so good each time I just wasn’t thinking about it! This is a must stop in Nice. My husband and I are the type that travel quite a bit around cuisine- Michelin star included. This was a local recommendation that exceeded expectation and we ended up there every day in town for breakfast & brunch. They offer clean, healthy, and high quality ingredients with gluten free & vegan options. It was consistently good, which isn’t easy to do! The menu items are simplistic in style enough that we could bring our 3 kids ages 6-16 but also packed a flavor punch enough so that we didn’t get tired of it. We sampled the brioche pain perdu, pancakes crème vanille, the eggs & bacon platter, various pastries, coffees, juices- all amazing…however the œufs Bénédictes bacon is one of the best breakfasts I’ve had, and the accompanying guacamole was the best I’ve ever tasted in my life. My husband is convinced this is the best cappucino he’s had outside of Rome herself. Pricing is reasonable compared to most tourist areas. We came early on a Thursday around 7:30 AM and after 9 on the weekends during peak season July and got seating for 5 within 5 minutes or so. We were impressed all around between service and the food. What a waste of time and money ! So we ordered 2 iced coffees; when it arrived, I was a bit shocked how scratched/with water stains the glasses looked ( I said to myself « it’s okay, vintage vibes ») ; then I tasted it and it was really bad. Seriously, if iced coffee is not something you make, you shouldn’t sell it to your customers. I would have never expressed my concern if one of the employees hadn’t started cleaning the floors inside with a bleach (Javel). I get it that you are closing in an hour but you still have 4 tables inside, two ladies with a little baby, and you start cleaning floors in the middle of the service. Im extremely allergic to bleach. I tried to express my concern to the employee behind the counter and that I would like my 7€ back, well she just said «you can take it to go » I simply couldn’t believe my ears. I already kept my mouth shut when my drink tasted so bad. But smelling javel was like a «cherry on a cake » . I will never return to this place and won’t recommend it to anyone from overseas. Beautiful place for brunch in Nice. Tasty food and friendly service. Nice coffee with vegan options and fresh fruit smoothies!

I ordered the waffle with fruit which was to die for. A bit too sweet for my taste as it came with a lot of syrup even though I asked for it on the side .

The pancakes were tasty but …well, not pancakes. They are special pancakes as they say. For me it was more like cake or bizcocho than actual pancakes. So if you are looking for classic pancakes don’t order them, go for the waffle instead!

They have lots of savory brunch options , very tasty looking salds, cakes and more!
