Eze Village on the mountain. You have to experience it in person to fully appreciate its medieval charm, quaintness, dreamland-like feeling, and incomparable views. We loved this place so much, that on our second vacation to France, we made it a special point to see it again. This time around, we had way more time, so we got a chance to relax and enjoy some F&B. The restaurant is located near the south end of the mountain, mixed in among other shops, businesses, and homes.
ATMOSPHERE: It's everything you imagine a restaurant to look like and be in an old French village; cobblestone sidewalks, terra cotta-colored planters overflowing with flora, trees with unswept grounds, black wrought iron-framed lighting, a stone facade, wooden shutters, surrounding buildings with dim lights glowing through obscured windows... Straight out of a story book. There's indoor seating and a beautiful outdoor courtyard available. The view!? OMG. Because Eze is perched up high and close to the ocean, the views are magnificent and endless. You peer over neighboring tile roofs, with the Med glistening like a glassy floor. Even nicer than my hometown of Hawaii.
While we didn't have a full meal because we had to get back to the ship, we were fortunate enough to have some light fare, in the peaceful courtyard setting on a gorgeous afternoon.
FOOD: Minestrone Soup My spouse ordered this, and dammit I should have too! It was absolutely delish. The spoonful I had was super flavorful in a clean tomato broth, fresh veggies, served piping hot, and on the soupy side as opposed to thick - exactly how a soup should be.
Croque Monsieur Ever since I had this at a small cafe near the Louvre (Café de la Comédie,) I've been addicted. Theirs did not disappoint either. The bread was nicely grilled with gooey cheese and thin slices of ham in the middle. Heaven.
SERVICE: Our male server was friendly and he checked on us often as we were the only ones sitting outside. Food service was quick.
TIP: Do NOT over stay your welcome in Eze Village. Come 5pm-ish, there were ZERO cabs in the area. Luckily, we successfully pestered a security guard to call one to take us back down to the harbor. Whew!
OVERALL: Great food, killer views,...
Read moreWe were all surprised and spoiled by the great food and wonderful prices here! We didn't know what to look for and what to expect passing through all the prestigious hotels and luxurious restaurants (which were fully booked!😵) on the way leading to this restaurant.
We were thrilled to see their menu (at about half-price of any other restaurant en route!) and felt very lucky to have a table right away! The set menu was great, with fresh ingredients, perfect seasonings and nice portions. Great taste and unbeatable price afterall~
The most astonishing dish was the pizza! You can't imagine how good it could be with that friendly price! It was very special, with very tasty and crunchy crust. I would say it was a unique kind of pizza, prepared with a different dough other than the usual one. You have to give their pizza a try if you are going there.
As somebody else said, you have climbed all the stairs up for the scenery or maybe for the botanical garden, then you should reward yourself with something nice!
Fabulous value for money, super delicious pizza and great food overall. Magnificent view if you get to sit indoor. (We sat outdoor but I passed by the indoor area when going to their lavatory, and managed to take a few...
Read moreSimple can’t let them get away with this… We were here on March 30. The service was disgusting. After we sat, nobody came to us for five minutes with the menus (no problem, we understand, this was a busy day, like probably any other day in Eze), so seeing that the menus were right across from me, I took them myself. Five minutes later the lady who was serving the tables, came to us and started to shout angrily that it was her job to give us the menus and we should not have taken them ourselves. Like, really angrily scolding us. Wow. Then, when we ordered desserts, she said that this was now a restaurant not a cafe and we were supposed to order food. Since desserts are apparently not real food, she told us we can’t be on the terrace and told us to go inside (this was all done very angrily). Inside, the place was a mess, with noise and dirty dishes everywhere. We should have left earlier, I guess. I rarely write reviews, almost never in fact, but this was so awful on every level that I simply had to do it. Eze itself is a beautiful place, of course, and so are...
