When walking into Éze, the glamorous entrance immediately caught our eye, the two star Michelin plaque gleaming on the wall. We were very hungry, having just climbed the steps, but, seeing the expensive cars on the driveway, immediately dismissed the possibility of going there. We kept walking, looking for places to eat. We passed some expensive seafood restaurants and realised that the price of food in Éze was universally expensive; they have you stuck up here, so if you want food, you'll need to pay.
As we were continuing our search, we noticed a menu on the wall which looked very delicious. The very charming staff standing outside welcomed us in, taking us past the outdoor bar with a phenomenal view, and into the restaurant. We were blown away by the walls of windows, the views stunning. We took our seats excitedly, and asked for two Coke Zeros. The prices on the menu were incredibly high, but we thought that since we are here and the view is so nice, we may as well treat ourselves. The very friendly waiter took our order, and we waited for our food to arrive. After a very unique appetizer, we were presented with our food. The presentation on the plate was beautiful, but they were very tiny. The stuffed tomato was no bigger than a ping-pong ball. Nevertheless, both our meals were absolutely delicious. We then ordered some coffee, and enjoyed the view. We noticed the grand piano in the corner, and the waiter was incredibly kind to let me play (after asking every table whether they minded). After an encore, we ordered the bill, expecting a hefty figure. The two Coke Zeros were €18 and the coffee was €12 each. The ping-pong ball tomato was €40.
Of course, the price covers the setting and atmosphere and everything else, but notwithstanding, it was vastly over-expensive. As we left Éze, we noticed the same place that caught our eye on the way up, and discovered a startling resemblance between the menu of the place we'd just eaten and here; we'd accidentally dined at a 2-star Michelin restaurant, which did explain quite a bit, and we both found very amusing. I was delighted to have been able to play the piano, but without that I probably would have given a...
Read moreMy friends and I (party of 4) dined here on October 11. As a 2 Michelin Star restaurant, you would assume a 5 star review rating would be a certainty to achieve; however, that is NOT the case here.
For my review, I used the following approach: the restaurant needs to earn a 5 star rating based on 2 stars for food, 2.5 stars for service, and 0.5 stars for ambiance. Overall, I rate La Chevre 2 stars as follows:
2 stars are earned for the incredible food prepared by chef Tom Meyer, and his team. The food was superb, every course hit the mark. C'est vraiment 'excellent'!
Zero stars earned for service. Service was 'sloppy' and careless. Here are a few examples: waiter spilling/dripping across the table when pouring water - I'm not talking about 1 or 2 stray drops (which should not happen anyway), but 8-10 inch trails across the table. When brought to the attention of the wait staff, there was a lack of acknowledgement/apology waiters bumping the back of chairs - this was not just one isolated incident, but it happened to me and one of my friends multiple times. Not sure why as there is plenty of room between tables...just carelessness a miss-step clearing a plate before one of my friends was finished a course a +300euro error on the check, charging an additional bottle of wine This should not happen at a 2 Michelin Star restaurant. If these service errors occurred with a Michelin reviewer, I cannot imagine the restaurant would earn even 1 Michelin Star.
Finally, while 1 star could be earned for the stunning location and ambiance, I have to override to zero because the service miss-steps, errors, and lack of apologies overwhelmed a pleasant experience.
My recommendation to potential diners...enjoy a drink on the patio for the same stunning views as the restaurant provides, but dine elsewhere - unfortunately, you will miss out on chef Tom's creations, but frankly service is just as important for a restaurant of...
Read moreDining at Le Chèvre d'Or is a truly unforgettable experience, offering not just exquisite cuisine but also outstanding service and breathtaking views of the Mediterranean. Perched high above the sea in the medieval village of Èze, the restaurant’s setting enhances every moment, creating an ambiance that's one of a kind. Our meal was beautifully complemented by a magnificent 2011 Margaux, which added yet another amazing layer to the evening.
The tasting menu is a culinary journey that showcases local ingredients and flavors. Each dish is a testament to his innovative approach, thoughtfully prepared and bursting with flavor. From delicate seafood courses that highlight the freshness of the Mediterranean to perfectly seasoned meats that are tender and rich, every plate is beautifully presented and carefully curated.
From the moment we arrived, the staff was attentive, friendly, and genuinely invested in ensuring our experience was perfect. They anticipated our needs without being intrusive, guiding us through the tasting menu with insightful recommendations and impeccable timing. Each course was presented with care, and their knowledge of the dishes and wine pairings added depth to the meal. The level of professionalism and hospitality truly elevated our dining experience, making it a memorable evening.
We also enjoyed a 2001 Clos champagne, priced at €168 per glass, but I can’t seem to recall the exact label. I’ve been trying to track it down since our visit in May. If anyone has any insights into the 2001 Clos we had, I would greatly appreciate it. I have been searching everywhere for...
