After a trying, rainy and cold 1st day in Paris, losing all our credit cards, only to have then turn up at the oh so honest Monopix at the end od Rue Dagurre, we were ready to be enveloped by the warmth and graciousness of a Parisian boîte. Carolyn, the chef's wife, is the perfect host and server, welcoming us with charm and compassion for our fractured French. The small, but well decorated and comfortable room, was filled with an eclectic array of diners of all ages and proclamations, Our avocado based amuse bouse was light on the palate, having no relation to the guacamole served in Mexican restaurants. My wife's duck terrine starter was a thick slice of savory goodness. I wanted one for dessert on this wet and chilly Friday in Paris. My squid and couscous was on the dainty side, but had a piquant spice after taste, providing some pizazz at the end. Milady enjoyed her Bresse Chicken for her main course and my Veal was simply delicious, devoured in hunger and need after a stressful day. Desserts were fantastically French, created with a light touch of creativity.. My companion for life liked her chocolate thing and I loved my reconstructured cheese cake piece of art which was a ridiculous distant cousin to a Stage Deli Cheesecake. A past its prime 25 Euro bottle of 2008 Provincial red wine did not detract from the night. For those who care, we were the only people speaking English in the place. We did try our lousy French and Carolyn, making us feel so comfortable in her home, tried her beginning English. We understood each other perfectly. Reservations were made for our last night in Paris. The cost was 101 Euro for a scrumptious meal that would require twice that outlay in the States. We strolled back to our domicile, arm and arm, remembering why...
Read moreAbsolutely delicious and exceptional service from this hidden gem! From the moment we walked in we were warmly welcomed and seated immediately. There was one guy who ran the front part of the restaurant, he was friendly and funny making our visit to the restaurant memorable. But the food is what’s going to keep us coming back. The chefs cooked us some of the best food we ate while in Paris and that includes some Micheline star restaurants! The wine suggestions were on point and an exquisite addition to the meal. The food was cooked to perfection and the presentation was done well. French cuisine restaurant with cuts of meat you would not find in the United States. A must-try if you are in Paris, it is a bit classier so dress accordingly and the prices are actually...
Read moreMy friend and I had a lovely dinner this evening at Aux enfants gâtés. Fabian was our server, he took the time to explain the menu to us in English, which was very kind of him, and gave us his recommendations as well as some info about the sources of the ingredients. He was the only server working but never kept us waiting or feeling wanting. Service was quick, and food was delicious. You could tell he was giving every guest attention and appreciation without keeping anyone waiting long. I had the asparagus with octopus, which was fresh and balanced well with olives. I also had the lamb which was very flavourful and served with fava beans and mixed veggies. We ended with cheesecake and chocolate cake,...
