Chez Zeyna (Senegalese) — Restaurant in Paris

After spending a few days outside of Paris and having our fair share of french food, on a return to the city we were in the mood for something different. My girlfriend had walked past Chez Zeyna previously and noted it, and so we made the commute to Paris' 18e arrondissement.

Arriving just an hour before closing time, we were informed that a lot of options were already sold out, and of the remaining dishes we opted for an order of mafe and a braised fish. Our food arrived quickly, and given the portion sizes, Chez Zeyna's prices are very good, especially given the usual Paris premium.

I enjoyed the mafe, although found it to require the tableside chili sauce to cut through the richness of the dish. Even better was the fish, well cooked, and topped with a delicious, creamy and tangy sauce. A side of a chili based sauce accentuated the dish, and especially following the addition of lime, we were treated to a harmonious symphony of textures and flavours.

Even during our meal right before closing we could see that the restaurant is popular, with a constant flow of customers coming in and out to see what had yet to be sold out. On a subsequent visit, I would come earlier in the day to sample a wider range of Chez Zeyna's from scratch, and well...

Nous sommes arrivés à 6 adultes et un enfant autour de 13h dans le restaurant où il n'y avait que 3 clients. Nous avons rencontré une personne qui n'est pas la propriétaire que nous avions vu auparavant qui nous a demandé de partir car nous étions plusieurs, et qu'il fallait absolument réserver. Je lui ai demandé si toutes les places vides étaient réservées? Elle m'a dit que non !! Mais elle ne souhaitait pas prendre une grande tablée. Je lui ai ai demandé s'il était mieux qu'on arrive deux par deux ?? Elle nous dit je vous prend mais vous ne restez pas longtemps, pas plus d'une heure !! Je Suis allée la voir pour lui que j'étais venue une première fois et que mon expérience étant Bonne, je me suis permise de revenir avec des amis, et que son comportement était abjecte !! Nous sommes clients et de surcroît si le restaurant est vide et que vous n'avez pas de réservation, vous ne pouvez vous permettre de demander à 7 personnes de partir!! Je lui ai demandé si les propriétaires du restaurant étaient au courant de son fonctionnement ??? Je tenais à faire mon retour d'expérience pas satisfaisant !! Si vous êtes propriétaire du restaurant et que vous lisez ce message, je vous invite à vérifier ce qui se passe quand vous n'êtes pas là. Et si vous êtes d'accord d'un traitement pareil de vos clients......

The host of this restaurant, created a vibrant, warm, and lively experience. While the restaurant is small, the joy within the restaurant was big. The food, excellent, I will definitely return to this Jewel in the 18th arrondissement. My two American companions were equally impressed...
