The website gives the impression that the Playce is a modern boutique hotel, but when you see it in person you can tell some company bought a budget hotel and put in some new bright, geometric print wallpaper. I don't know if the company intended to do much upkeep or put much thought into the details. It was all about the branding than the actual product.
First clocked on when we got to the lobby to check in. There were a bunch of plants, but they were all fake. I had booked a standard double room with a single queen bed, and had made sure to request one big bed in the booking. The attendant who checked us in even confirmed this. Got to our room, which turns out had two single beds, on individual frames with wheels, pushed together. Not exactly ideal for a romantic getaway to Paris. The beds kept coming apart with someone falling in between. The room was fine, but the attention to detail was lacking. Lots of wear and tear. Since we checked in late in the evening, I left the bed thing for the moment. The next morning I talked to the receptionist, and said how I had requested on big bed but had received two twin beds, and if there was anything we could do about that. He was very helpful and swapped rooms. But turns out their idea of one big bed, are pushed together smaller beds. As the room we changed to had the same issue of the smaller beds on wheeled frames coming apart. The second room was also a little more worse for wear. The luggage rack was missing a big chunk of fabric in one strap, the sink had a giant crack in it, the shower head couldn't stay up, the soap holder was broken, stains on bedding. These things are all fine, and didn't effect our stay that much, but when you see a hotel is "4 stars" and is presented a certain way online, it is disappointing to see all that. Aside from actually being unable to share a bed with my partner, I slept ok.
Breakfast was just ok. Standard continental. Runny scrambled eggs, sliced meats, corn flakes, machine coffee. Was ok, but always seemed to be low on stuff. I'm glad I didn't pay for it, as I had received a deal when I booked.
The hotel is on a very busy road, more to do with lots of commotion from the public rather than traffic. Wasn't bothered by this that much, as the windows kept out the noise. But if you want a more peaceful location, book a few streets over. Conveniently, it is a 15min walk from Gard du Nord, and is near a metro station.
The employees were all very nice and helpful. When I asked about the bed situation, the receptionist was more than happy to help. When I had to ask about things in the breakfast being restocked, the employee was very prompt and polite.
I would have been fine with this hotel, had it not tried to present itself as a romantic, modern boutique. I would have been more annoyed had I paid full price for it. I'm honestly not sure why it has been awarded four stars. My suggestion is either book with a proper budget hotel or a chain like a Best Western, as at least then you know what you are going to get. I have definitely stayed in worse places (a VERY last minute booking at a sailors hotel in Antwerp...), but those ones didn't try to be something they weren't. If there is a deal on and you don't mind those things, then this is perfectly fine. The employees definitely...
Read moreWe had a very disappointing experience at this hotel and would not recommend it to anyone visiting Paris. As mentioned in other reviews, the area feels quite unsafe, and we often felt uneasy, even during the day. We were assigned room number 1, located on the ground floor right next to the main reception and bar. We immediately asked if we could switch rooms to avoid the noise, but the receptionist informed us the hotel was fully booked, so we couldn’t move, which we understood.|However, the room itself was not up to expectations. It was dirty, with dust covering the upstairs area, and there was an odd, unused single bed in a strange extra “room.” Unlike other rooms that apparently had kettles, ours didn’t have one. It certainly didn’t feel like the 4-star experience we were hoping for.|The biggest issue, though, was the excessive noise. On two of the three nights we stayed, it was unbearable. One night, we returned to our room to find a private party taking place in the bar next door, with incredibly loud music. It felt like trying to sleep in a nightclub. We immediately asked to move rooms or even change hotels, but were told that wasn’t possible. We were told the party would end at 12:30am, so we went out for a drink to wait for the noise to die down. When we returned at 12:30am, the party was still going, and it didn’t end until 2:00am. We were extremely frustrated and disappointed, especially as we were here for a holiday and expected to relax, not deal with such disturbances.|To make matters worse, the following night there was music playing in the bar again at 1:30am, demonstrating a complete lack of respect for paying guests who need rest. It’s clear that the hotel prioritizes events over the comfort of its visitors. If you value a peaceful night’s sleep, I would strongly advise against staying here. The hotel needs to decide if it’s a venue for parties or a place for paying guests to relax.|The staff were admittedly apologetic and did refund us for one night but still allowed the loud noise the following night which we think was totally...
Read moreIt is the first time I take the time to write a review of a hotel, but I consider it necessary because it is a 4 star hotel whose cleanliness is worse than that of a hostel. I went on my honeymoon with my partner and we stayed at this hotel, where we had one of the worst experiences we have had in hotels. To begin with, the first day we were given a room that had a door that did not close, so I recommend you to check if the door closes. Due to this situation we were moved to a room that had humidity in the walls and in the bathroom, but as they had no more rooms we stayed in that one. Our nightmare began at night when we started to itch but we did not understand the reason for that and because we were tired we did not think a lot about the situation, however the next night the itching was unbearable and when we woke up at 2 am we realized that the whole bed had bedbugs. That night we had to change rooms twice because the next room we were given also had bedbugs and we could not change at that time of day to another hotel. It is important to mention that the next day the manager kindly reimbursed us the total amount we had paid for the hotel and told us that the Health department was going to the hotel to attend the problem they had with the bed bugs. However, the expenses we had to incur to get another hotel, fumigate and wash our clothes were more than what we were reimbursed, so we would not recommend this hotel at all. Finally it is important to mention that the hotel is located in an area where at night there are a lot of men drinking in the streets, which can be uncomfortable for women, so I would not recommend this hotel for women...
