We were lucky to get in without reservations. Normally, you should get reservations as this place has just few tables-- maybe 10. It is a clean, cute place that makes use of mismatched chairs to give it a funky look. We were looking forward to some good, spicy chinese food since most places don't honor the spice request to specificity. They are afraid to spice it up. We ordered beef with leeks with a vinegar component to it, chicken with peanuts and sliced potatoes with cumin. We were asked what spice level we wanted and I said 4 (on a scale of 1 to 5). The server looked at me and explained that their food is spicy and that a level 3 would be fine if I liked spicy food. So I went with a 3. My companion ordered his chicken at a 3 as well as our potato side dish.
When the beef arrived I could see all the peppers and peppercorns so I knew it would be spicy but I didn't realize how spicy. IT WAS SPICY. Lots of leeks sautéed with the beef but where's the beef? Tiny morsels of beef that I had to pick out in bulk in order to get a good taste of it in my mouth. Beef pieces were much too small. I didn't particularly care for all the grease at the bottom of the dish either. I must admit, however, that the dish was tasty. The chicken dish had more chicken than I had beef but suffered from the same grease problem. It was flavorful though. I enjoyed the potatoes with cumin which was aggressively seasoned with cumin seeds/powder: after all it is potatoes with cumin. My companion did not really love this dish. I thought it was good. All in all I got my spice fix at this restaurant, but I wish the food had less grease and more protein. The service was very friendly and helpful. The pricing was fair for the...
Read moreI arrived at the restaurant to meet a friend and my wife. My wife was running late, we told the guy at the door we wanted a table for 3 people. Now the restaurant was pretty empty at this point, the guy told us we had to wait in the street until my wife arrived. Not a great welcome.
We eventually were invited inside where they sat us at on little square table, with 3 seats, barely enough room on the table for two people let alone 3. I asked to be moved to a larger table, which we were.
The food is gimmicky. The restaurant allows you to chose your heat strength for your meal. Im a chilli head and so I asked for the hotest. The food was really spicy, but the taste of the burnt chilli, and the mount of oil on the dish to give it the heat totally ruined the meal, there was just no other taste than burnt chilli.
Really disappointed, won’t...
Read moreI ordered the spicy szechuan chicken (12.5 EUR) and it was lovely. The style was different than what I have tried in another restaurant.
There was a lot of things that go into the plate with the chicken: onion, peanuts, szechuan peppers (of course), and some aromatic herbs. I like that there was a little bit of liquid sauce in the dish, instead of being completely fried and dry. When the sauce got mixed with rice, it became a wonderful bite altogether.
There was a lot of flavours, almost like they were floating in my mouth. From umami, salty, and sour, to spicy and aromatic, every bite was enjoyable.
There is 5 level of spicyness with which you can order this dish. I didn't specify what level I wanted but it turned out to be just the right amount.
Service was quick and...
