Hilarious. Never before have I thought of the police as household removal men. But yesterday in a a sequence à la "Charlot" (Charlie Chaplin's Little Tramp), we watched the efforts of the bicycle-mounted Police Municipale in assisting the franchisee of the Chalet to reorganise his fridges, chillers and coffee machine. We were taking a bike ride through the glorious Bois de Boulogne and stopped, we thought, for coffee. We never got the coffee, but it was quite an entertainment. Glory be to the Police for their stout-hearted civic sensibility (way beyond anything the pathetic troopers of my home city would ever have contemplated). And the sight of a pony-sized Wolfhound nosing ever so politely up to a pint-sized French bulldog was only exceeded by the bulldog's necessary and also polite walk on 2 legs to return the favour....
