Are you a romantic? 🥰 I am. Well, I confess, I don't buy my wife flowers every week anymore. But in my defense, we're away so often that it wouldn't make sense and I'm definitely more realistic than romantic. 😇 Anyway, by romantic, in the context of restaurants, I mean that I like when things are similar to how they used to be: good food for the guest who must always be the priority. And if it's possible, in an atmosphere that's similar to what I experienced when I was younger. Now that I think about it, I may be more old-fashioned than romantic... 😅 On our last day in Paris 🗼, I wanted the 🇫🇷 French bistro experience. I wanted the decor of a French bistro, the food of a French bistro (🥩 ribeye, tartare, 🥚 eggs mayo, 🍟 fries...) and I wanted the service of a French bistro (a mix of professional, fast-paced and informal enough so you feel comfortable). 🙏 And I found this at Le robinet d'or. I picked that place cause it seemed to match the above mentioned criteria and cause it was close to the Gare du Nord. Well, turns out it wasn't that close but we still made it. 😅 They offer a lunch special which is more than decent. My tartare was very good and, even though the 🍈 melon wasn't so tasty (that happens) and the 🍟 fries not the best I've had, that was a very good 2-course meal for €18.5. 👍 The food wasn't the only good thing about that place. The decor was great too. Apparently the place has been recently renovated. It's beautiful and keeps the spirit of a traditional bistro. I love it. 🤩 But what I loved the most was the service. Not only did they accept to change the composition of the lunch special for my son who specifically wanted a croque-madame AND the starter of the special 🙄, but they let us stay there for a long time after we finished eating without ever complaining. I really felt at ease there and I hope I can visit this place again soon. 👏 . . . Quality & taste: 8/10 Quantities: 8/10 Atmosphere: 10/10 Originality: 7/10 Ratio price / quality: 9/10 Service: 10/10 How I felt...
Read moreThis is the story of a Masterclass in Condescension during our last night in Paris.
From the moment we walked in, we were met not with hospitality, but with a distinct air of condescension. The amuse-bouche arrived quickly, perhaps because the toasted bread it came with had been prepared sometime around breakfast. At least it was complimentary, though calling it a gift feels generous.
We politely requested a spicier version of the steak tartare, something that any decent kitchen should be able to handle without blinking. Instead, we were offered a sweet-and-spicy sauce on the side, as if we were asking for ketchup at a fine dining restaurant. The implication was clear: adjust it yourself, amateurs.
To be fair, the paté en croute was enjoyable. But it all went downhill with the steak tartare: a generous portion, yes, but that only prolonged the suffering. Suspiciously sweet, completely flat in taste, and with the texture of something thrown together without the slightest care. I've had better tartare at airport lounges, i swear.
Service was where the true character of the restaurant shone through. Our waiter managed to laugh at us, not with us, multiple times, including when grabbing my friend’s credit card with all the grace of a nightclub bouncer. The sarcastic farewell at the door was the final flourish to an evening already dripping with arrogance.
Constructive criticism is clearly unwelcome here, which is a shame for them. Because in a city like Paris, where exceptional food and service are the norm, this place chooses to stand out for all the wrong reasons.
Edit: I’m glad to see that when faced with criticism, you choose sarcasm over self-reflection. I suppose treating customers this way is part of your “charmful” experience.
Finishing the dish doesn’t make it memorable, it just shows that sometimes hunger wins over disappointment 😀
Thanks for confirming that my experience wasn’t an exception, but rather the norm....
Read moreStaying here right now! I love the atmosphere and the vibe! So local. Across the road from a school, quiet and really close to the river or canal district. I walked to the Place De Republque it was about 13 minutes walking.
The food is great here at Le Robinet D’Or. they have their home made pommels frites and chips! They serve them with a drink or with lunch or dinner. We had the Salmon Marine and the Fish of the day which was Salmon over vegetables. It was eggplant, courgette and carrot, the sauce was amazing. The salmon cooked to perfection.
The bread is incredible paired with butter.
Our waitress and waiter were both very friendly. The coffee was scrumptious add to that the praline ball covered in cacao. Yep. Definitely deelish.
Two pages of Cocktails ! And plenty of wines and aperitifs.
The room is pretty and spacious for Paris - the shower and bathroom is lovely and modern. Our window is overlooking the street and is still quiet inside! Comfy beds and lovely coffee service!
Nothing bad to say. We are one block from the canal/river.
Lots of grocery stores and they have wall charger...
