The staff were the best staff I've encountered in the hotel for a long time and for a three star hotel they give a five star service. Charlem, Océane, Audrey, Estelle and Julieta were so hospitable, with a smile at all times. They were very accommodating and every request I had was met. They even gave extras for example they gave my mom some green tea free of charge that she loved. When a fly fell into my Baileys drink they were happy to replace it. They provided the extra bedding we requested. They were patient with my broken French. They provided extra cutlery when we requested it without any fuss. The rooms were cleaned every day to a good standard. The only thing i have with this hotel that's a problem is the size of the rooms- they were small. Also they didn't have that feel of luxury but that's sadly to be expected with a three star hotel. This is my first time staying at a three star hotel and so I was surprised to not find the complementary coffee and kettle in the room, or the standard Iron in the room. I had told my husband not to pack an iron because I told him every hotel has an iron but alas this hotel did not have an iron in the room. It didn’t have a bathroom robe or slippers which is what I'm accustomed to. They didn't have a gym or a swimming pool which is what I thought all hotels had and had told the kids to pack swimming trunks, so they were disappointed. It’s no fault of the hotel though, but now I'll pay more attention to the star ratings. In terms of location this place is near everything literally. There are many cafes and restaurants nearby even though I wasn't a fan of all of them, some had greasy food really, and I found that there were better quality restaurants in the 4th arrondisment for example. Breakfast was good though very sugar/carb heavy with lots of cakes, bread, juice, would have preferred more protein options for those on a low carb eating regimen. But overall I truly enjoyed my experience and will go back to France for sure, though I’d by God’s grace stay in a 4 or 5 star and possibly not in Paris as it was a bit dingy. But the Parisians are so friendly. Not one person was rude. Amazing experience. Brough back lots of French...
Read moreDo not even think about attempting to check-in about 40 minutes before check-in time, otherwise you will be asked to come back at precisely noon to check in "when we are ready". It's not simply a case of they will check you in and you can wait while they prepare your room - they won't even do the paperwork for you until it's EXACTLY noon. You'll be asked to sit in the rather poor lobby, and wait.
Once you've finally completed the obligatory wait and checked in, you will be confronted by the elevators. You had better press both call buttons for both elevators, as they run on separate systems. Elevator A might be closer to you, but it won't move an inch unless you press its specific button.
After you've finally gotten to your room, you'll find no safe in the room, no minibar or fridge, and barely any space to hang your clothes and stow your belongings. Only one side of the bed has a bedside table, so you'd better only come here if you're travelling alone and have absolutely minimalistic requirements and for some reason want to pay more (check out Reims Hotel about a 5 minute walk up the road for a similar no frills experience, but with friendlier staff, cleaner rooms and cheaper prices). The decor is supposed to be modern, but looks like a bad student hostel instead.
The hygiene of the place is left wanting, too. Not only will you find that there is literally one medium towel to be used as a hand, face and bath towel, but the foot towel used to ensure that you don't slip and slide about the place after a shower was stained and dirty.
This is certainly not the best hotel, although the standard of hotels in Paris are generally lacking. There are other, cheaper options that offer a similarly...
Read moreWe stayed here recently for a 72-hour trip to Paris, booking it as part of a combo deal through Eurostar. I have a bit of a mixed feeling about the hotel, as there were positive and negative aspects;
Postive: Close to Gare du Nord (10 mins walk) Close to several metro stops (5 mins walk) with direct connections to many places of interest (Montmartre, Arc de Triomphe, Louvre) Clean and tidy Solid and secure locker system in the basement for 1-3 euro (depending on size) to store your luggage on your checkout day (needs coins!) Nice breakfast buffet with quite a variety of choice
Negative: It's not the greatest neighborhood, while walking there in the evening from Gare du Nord the main impression was "everything here smells like pee", and quite some people hanging around on the streets The room is very small, much smaller than the impression given by the advertised pictures. The bathroom was also small, there was only a shower of medium quality It was nearly impossible to sit down on the toilet as it was placed awkwardly close to the wall so you had to sit down sideways. I'm not the tallest of people but I can't imagine how taller people would have managed.
I had expected more of this place so couldn't help to feel a bit disappointed. Staff was reasonably helpful, though they did surprise me with a tourist tax surcharge of around 11 euro when we checked out, while I thought we had a complete package deal. However, overall we had a fine stay as we spent most of our time roaming around the city and only came back in the evenings to sleep and eat breakfast in the morning before...
