Les Chics Types — Restaurant in Paris

Just a stone’s throw away from Paris’ largest park, the Buttes-Chaumont, les Chics Types is a welcome new addition. With its New York café-style interior, great value for money menu and young, trendy clientele, les Chics Types is fast becoming the restaurant to be seen in this up-and-coming neighborhood. Exposed brick walls, checkerboard floor tiles and mellow soul music make for a chilled-out atmosphere and demonstrate an American influence. Meanwhile, the large and frequently packed terrace of tiny, round tables keeps the restaurant true to its Parisian roots. There’s plenty of space outside, too. The partially closed terrace spills out onto the street, so it’s a perfect spot for an apéritif after your day at the park. They’ve opted for a “world cuisine” theme with the food. Classic French choices such as fillet of sea bass and cœur de rumsteak (heart of round steak) sit alongside creamy cannelloni, Vietnamese-style bo-bun salads, and burgers. Such a wide variety of food can often mean a disappointingly average meal, but not here. The burgers are juicy and cooked as you want them, the salads fresh with imaginative vinaigrettes, and the American-style cheesecake really hits the spot. There is also a surprising number of non-meat options, meaning that a vegetarian could have three or four options, which is almost unheard of in a Parisian brasserie. Original review: Had lunch there on a week day. Service was good, and the place looked quite cosy. The food - as promising as it sounded on the menu - was, however, a bit disappointing. I had dull, cold beetroots served with tasteless melted cheese slices, a thick mushroom soup, and bland gnocchis swimming in butter (couldn't finish this one). The seasonings felt wrong throughout the meal, and the dishes were mostly cold. I only hope I went there...

Je vis dans le quartier et je connais ce resto depuis longtemps mais j'avais arrêté de le fréquenter car j'avais été déçue à plusieurs reprises. Ayant appris qu'il avait changé de propriétaires, j'y suis retournée ce midi avec une amie. Mal nous en a pris ! Alors que nous avions fait notre choix, on nous annonce qu'il manque plusieurs plats de la courte carte que nous avions entre les mains. Ok. On vient enfin prendre notre commande après un bon quart d'heure. D'autres clients arrivent, s'installent puis commandent. Nous attendons nos plats. 30 minutes plus tard, les personnes arrivées avant nous sont servies. Nous patientons toujours. Mon amie demande au "gérant" si nous n'avons pas été oubliées, il répond, sûr de lui et un brin agacé : "pas du tout". Nos plats arriveront 15 minutes plus tard, soit 45 minutes après la prise de notre commande. Et la déception ne s'arrête pas là ; le smashburger était sec, la garniture minimaliste, le cheddar quasi inexistant et le pain de dessus dur comme une biscotte. Le geste commercial (le verre de citronnade de mon amie a été offert) et le "je suis navré" prononcé du bout des lèvres par le "gérant" ne suffiront pas à me refaire tenter l'expérience, je n'y reviendrai pas. Et je ne le recommanderai évidemment pas non plus aux clients des locations de courtes durées que je gère dans...
