Café du Palais — Restaurant in Pau

I love this cafe... idealy placed in that it's set back from a one way road, which is never very busy. However, it is a busy thoroughfare due to the surrounding shops and the Tribunal, which is fronted with a small park and impressive water feature. The beautiful Eglise St. Jaques can also be viewed from the outside seating area which, in colder weather is covered and heated giving it a very cosy feel. One of my favourite places to eat lunch in Pau - it’s typically full of loyal customers and you should book to avoid waiting, particularly between 12:00-13:30. Un jour de pluie battante sur Pau, nous nous sommes réfugiés pratiquement à tâtons dans ce café. Il était bondé, nous ressemblions à des naufragés. Nous nous apprêtions à retourner dans la tourmente quand la patronne a demandé à deux habitués s'ils voulaient bien nous laisser leur place. C'était gentil et réconfortant.

Depuis, nous venons régulièrement nous poser dans ce café quand nous sommes sur Pau. Dès le début mars, on y a une très bonne vue sur les glaces sublimes de Georgio, le glacier ambulant et les gens du café ne voient pas d'inconvénients à ce que nous accompagnons notre boisson d'une très bonne glace. L'hiver, il n'est pas rare de pouvoir profiter d'un généreux rayon de soleil sur la terrasse et d'y jouir du spectacle de la rue. J'aime la déco chaleureuse en bois et cuivre, l'accueil discret et bienveillant. Hier, j'ai testé le tchaï latté frappé, délicieux même quand il fait froid.
