L' Esprit des Halles — Restaurant in Pau

I come here a lot after buying my groceries at the market. The staff is very nice, and they take care of you quickly and professionally. Today I had a carpaccio of tomatoes and mozzarella. They were yellow tomatoes and absolutely delicious. Really juicy. The dressing was fantastic. I also had their escargot. They were fine. They weren’t the best I’ve ever had (and let’s be clear here, I’m talking about the garlic butter! :-)), And they were far from the worst I’ve ever had. They were, as the French say, “correct.“ You can sit outside or inside. I didn’t give a great score on the atmosphere, simply because it’s in market/mall-type environment. It’s nice to sit outside and you’re shaded from the sun, which can get extremely hot here in the summer. There’s nothing special about the atmosphere, but it’s pleasant. The starter arrived promptly and was delicious. We then waited 45minutes for our main courses. We noticed others ordering after us were served theirs much sooner. When our orders finally arrived one member of the party hadn’t ordered what was served. We were told the dish ordered couldn’t have been provided because none were left! We were th n told the delay was because of staff absence in the kitchen. But what about the others we served earlier?

The burgers were felt to be bland whilst the entrecôte was very ordinary. Chips had clearly been standing a while before serving.

We were given a free coffee! Mmh not the best experience and pricey. No where as good as the meal in the small cafe...

11:10 arrivées avec mon amie pour prendre un petit déjeuné (servi de 8:30 à 11:30 ). La serveuse se montre , après avoir attendu au moins 5 minutes devant le Comptoir, en nous disant « vous voulez quoi ». On lui a demandé de nous sévir deux petits déjeunés. On aurais pas dû ... la serveuse nous a répondu d'une façon exécrable qu’ ils étaient que deux et qu ils ne faisaient pas les petits déjeuners aujourd'hui. Je lui ai signalé que cétait écrit sur leur carte. Elle ma violemment répondu que ils étaient en plein rush et que au vu de la soirée étudiante de ce soir, ils avaient pas le temps de faire des petits dejeunés ! Quelle fantastique RUSH ! Les Halles étaient totalement vide, et pour surtout un jeudi matin. Elle nous a ensuite signalé qu'elle aimerait prendre sa pause car elle a pas eu le temps de manger bon clairement on la faisait chier! Un de ses collègues est arrivé. Elle a commencé à lui reprocher qu'ils étaient que deux... et lui a gentiment déléguer son travail, car il fallait qu'elle parte en pause clope pendant une demi-heure. Alors celle-là, on me l'avait jamais encore faite, mais heureusement que ce n'est pas un médecin ou une infirmière . Partir en pause, sachant que votre patient fais peut-être des convulsions...
