Edit: After the owners ridiculous comments (why not just except they got it wrong) he brings my kids into it - I won't lower myself that far but I will quash the comments in one foul swoop and leave readers to make their own minds up. He claims we arrived AFTER 9pm yet take a look at the time of my receipt (in photos) I paid at 21:41, spent €150 and the described "actions" happened all in this space of time.....What a joke, the digital receipt doesn't lie and my in-laws certainly didn't return. What a scumbag. This place started off well as I would go for a beer after the beach and one night we decided to try the restaurant due to the good reviews and nice smell from the grill which is where the disaster happened. I have never experienced anything like it in all the restaurans I have been to.
There were 6 of my family in attendance, the blonde lady (perhaps the owners wife) came over to take our order but we weren't quite ready, rather than asking us what we would like to drink and coming back later she became angry and extremely rude as we still had the menu in our hands, my wife wanted to leave at this point already. My father-in-law ordered snails and thought it came with a side dish but the rude lady snapped at him and he didn't want to ask for anything else. We asked for a bottle of rose at this, however this didn't arrive and I had to go and ask someone else. Eventually she returned and I ordered an entrocote steak, we all know these are a bit fatty but the meat selection is poor and thats the only beef available. When it came to the table it was literally a lump of inedible meat. Naturally we politely said that the meat was not good, my father-in-law (director of a hotel) spoke to the lady but she became rude and angry. He asked to speak to the owner but apparently he was too busy to come over.
The chef came over and I have never seen anything like it, he was agressive and immediately started hacking away at the meat like a butcher ramming a piece into his mouth shouting there is nothing wrong with it. Towards the end I went and spoke to the owner who said we had insulted them!! I explained that his staff were rude but he insisted we insulted them. At the same time the blonde lady was talking to my wife saying yes they occasionally get bad meat and other people have complained about the aggressive chef.
In summary I would not recommend this hell hole unless you like a battle to...
Read moreI really wanted to like O’Can Mémain after reading so many good reviews, but sadly my own experience didn’t match up. The setting is pleasant and the atmosphere is cozy, but from the moment we arrived the welcome felt cold. The manager barely acknowledged us, and the grill chef made a condescending remark that came across more arrogant than humorous. It immediately set the wrong tone.
Service throughout the evening was inconsistent. Our waitress seemed rushed and impatient, making it clear she didn’t really have time for our table. At one point we were even reproached in a way that felt unnecessary and unprofessional. Instead of feeling relaxed, we felt like an inconvenience.
The food itself was also disappointing. While some dishes were fine, my meat was overcooked and tough, and when I mentioned it there was no offer of a replacement. Two plates also arrived incomplete — sauces missing — after more than half an hour of waiting. For a restaurant in this price range, I expect much better attention to detail.
To make matters worse, we were seated next to the bins, which were overflowing and smelly. It completely ruined any chance of enjoying the meal, and I even took photos to show just how unacceptable it was for paying guests to be placed there.
In the end, what could have been an enjoyable evening turned into a frustrating one. The combination of a cold welcome, arrogant comments from the grill chef, inattentive service from the waitress, disappointing food, and being sat by the bins overshadowed everything else. It’s a shame, because the place clearly has potential, but based on my visit I wouldn’t recommend it or...
