Pub l'Escale — Restaurant in Reims

I am a British 40 something returning from my Summer holiday and Reims is a handy stop over before the last schlep to Calais. I love real ale and am partial to the odd keg IPA too. This is a top place. Wide ranging beer selection to suit all pallates. Belgians, Porters, high strenght IPAs, low strength IPAs, French beers, and Dutch beers. Many on draft, plus loads of bottles. Pleasantly surprised to see most of the clientele were under 30 and happily sipping pints (yes, pints). Nice atmosphere, nice staff, and nice...

A very quiet mid afternoon drink. In fact we were the only ones there initially. The bar man was excellent. He spoke great English although we know enough French to get by. However it allowed us to have a in depth conversation about beer, music etc. A really interesting selection of beers beyond the usual Belgian offerings. The music was top notch too (AC/DC, Fleetwood Mac etc).

Recommend a drink here in...

Mon ami, en situation de handicap (non-voyant), et moi-même sommes des habitués de l’Escale. Malheureusement, notre dernière visite a été gâchée par l’attitude déplacée de la patronne. Elle a remis en question, de manière maladroite et impolie, la présence du chien-guide, pourtant essentiel et légitime.

Son comportement incohérent et irrespectueux a instauré une ambiance particulièrement désagréable. Au lieu de communiquer calmement et avec professionnalisme si un éventuel problème se posait, elle a fait preuve d’un manque flagrant de retenue. Son attitude donnait également l’impression qu’elle n’était pas totalement sobre, ce qui est inacceptable pour quelqu’un gérant un établissement accueillant du public. Ironiquement, il semble que l’abus d’alcool soit moins problématique pour elle que la présence d’un chien qui, visiblement, faisait preuve de plus de tenue qu’elle.

Je tiens cependant à souligner le professionnalisme et la compréhension des serveurs, qui ont su rester respectueux et commerçants malgré cette situation...
