22/05/21. I called just before 13h to check that they were doing lunch service and was told that we could come until 14h30. We arrived within 10 minutes and waited a while at the menu stand in front, which failed to compel any host to tend to us. we had to plant ourselves directly in front of a service station behind all the outdoor tables, where three staff had gathered at the time. my husband said “bonjour” which was ignored. he proceeded to ask if there was a table available and a lady- presumably the manager- said no. we had clearly seen at least one table free. I asked, would it be possible later? She looked at us and answered that she already had many people lined up for the second seating and basically had no desire to accommodate any more. Not a word or motion of regret or apology, just an out-of-place haughty manner of looking down on potential customers prepared to give them money. a final “bon courage” (friendly or snide?) from the male waitstaff bid us away. If she had simply said on the phone that she basically did not want any more customers, it could have saved us the trip and their attitude! Was the kitchen overwhelmed by the unexpected turnout that day? did the waitstaff not want any more tables or did they deem us too lowly for their establishment? all we know is that they were RUDE. Vivre was not open so we happily ate at the mussels stand on the other side of the quay where the food was prepared with heart and the service much...

During my stay in Rochefort in late Feb, I had the pleasure of dining multiple times at Restaurant Le Cap Nell. As a solo traveler, I found it to be one of the most enjoyable and memorable dining experiences of my trip.

Among the various dishes I tried, the fresh oysters and the desserts stood out the most — absolutely delightful and a true highlight of coastal French cuisine. The steak was also excellent, although once it was cooked slightly more than my original request. Nevertheless, the overall culinary quality and attention to detail made every meal a pleasure.

The restaurant offers a relaxed yet elegant atmosphere, perfect for savoring a leisurely meal by the harbor. The set menu, priced around €30, represented outstanding value for the quality of food, service, and ambiance.

One charming quirk to note: the opening hours can be a little unpredictable — on one occasion, I returned eagerly for another meal, only to find the doors closed! It seems that to enjoy such wonderful food, a little luck and good timing are part of the adventure — very French, and all part of the experience.

Overall, Restaurant Le Cap Nell delivers a delightful, authentic taste of Rochefort hospitality. 🌟 I look forward to returning, and highly recommend it to fellow travelers seeking both great seafood and a touch of charming...

Il y avait un certain temps que nous n'avions plus fréquenté le Cap Nell pour un déjeuner familial et je dois avouer que le groupe a été réellement déçu (6 adultes - 3 enfants). Nous avons été très correctement accueillis par une charmante jeune-fille qui s'est chargée par la suite des commandes, du service, de l'établissement de la note et de son paiement. Il est possible qu'elle n'ait pas été une apprentie mais la nouvelle responsable de l'établissement car nous n'avons vu qu'elle. nous avons bien aperçu un homme nettement plus âgé mais qui ne devait pas être un dirigeant car dans le cas contraire il nous aurait certainement salué lors de notre arrivée et départ ...

Les apéritifs et entrées ont été servis rapidement, ce qui nous a fait prendre conscience que les plats de résistance étaient particulièrement longs à venir. Normal puisque nous avions été oubliés ... La jeune serveuse est venue s'excuser et nous a promis que nous serions servis dans les 10 minutes, ce qui fut fait.

La nourriture en elle-même ne fut pas mauvaise mais quelconque. Oeuf parfait qui en fait était plutôt mollé, choucroute de la mer avec un poisson qui nacré n'aurait pas été sec, chou trop acide accompagné par 2 - 3 morceaux de légumes sans intérêt gustatif à notre sens et une joue de porc qui n'avait rien de sublimant ...

La jeune-fille multi-tâches s'était trompée dans l'établissement de la facture et nous aurions pu partir en ne payant qu'un peu plus de la moitié de ce que nous devions aussi nous lui avons fait rectifier la note, avons payé et laissé un pourboire pour son implication, toutefois il est plus que probable que nous évitions à l'avenir cet établissement qui aurait besoin que ses responsables soient présents pour encadrer son équipe mais surtout pour faire un petit tour en salle pour recueillir les avis de ses clients.

Par ailleurs le cadre est sympathique, la vue sur le port de plaisance agréable et les assises très confortables. En été la terrasse...
