Staff rude to us when we walked in. Left immediately.
Update 20th August
Dear owner,
In response to your comment below on the 19th August.
Truthfully we were very excited to attend Cavoua, your online reviews appeared excellent, as do the pictures of food and coffee.
My wife and I were both incredibly displeased at the way we were addressed by the staff member when we visited your establishment. Never have we been treated so rudely at any restaurant we have been to, especially given we feel we habe no cause for offence.
Regarding your suggestions and recommendations:
Both my wife and I greeted the staff (in French) when we entered your café.
There was no ‘Please wait to be seated’ sign that we could see, and I specifically looked for one when we came in. The next establishment we entered had no problem with us entering and grabbing a table. In Australia, if there is no sign indicating that we are to wait to be seated, one can assume any available table is free to be taken. Perhaps a sign to this effect would prevent this from happening in future?
I’m sorry your staff member was so offended by us grabbing a menu. This is not considered rude in Australia. With a hungry toddler, we were hoping to save some time so we could feed her, as well as save the busy staff in your popular café from needing to bring a menu over to us.
I wish it weren’t so, but the way we were treated really upset us, and tarnished some of our time in your city.
What lessons, if any, you may wish to learn from this experience I...
Read moreHorrible service. Food decent. I ordered a granola while reading my book. I was seated on a table for 2. Next to me there were 2 girls on iPad who each ordered a cappuccino. We all were there the same time. Two hours later, a server comes standing on my right telling me there are 4 people who’d like a table and either I order more food or leave. No apologies. Abrupt. I said my table is for two not 4. He kinda motioned that he also meant the other table with the girls. But standing over me he really was talking to me, not all of us. He referred to a note on the window that during busy times one can’t stay long… this happened at 5 pm, they close at 6 pm. Busy time is usually lunch time. I don’t like Starbucks and the chain aspect, but I can now see why when Starbucks comes to town people flock there. I’m a fan of mom and pop places and like independent coffee shops but this was a terrible first impression. If they don’t like people staying long, then have a minimum amount spent. To say spend more or leave is obnoxious. Won’t be back here anymore. Great friendly service supersedes a good cake. Btw, wall plugs may be nice for your...
Read moreMy rating is just for coffee, I loved it! In France I guess they do prefer a more roasted taste for coffee, that’s why it is very difficult to find a mild, less roasted taste of coffee like you can find here. I had a latte that was so smooth and creamy, just perfect, at least on my taste. I also had an iced matcha perfectly blended also, very strong and natural taste. And I loved also their granola with fresh fruits, apparently simple yet very tasty, crunch and a bit roasted, felt like crafted in the house. But again my focus was on coffee, the best I had on my vacation...
