La Java Café — Restaurant in Saint-Malo

This place was definitely over hyped when I read through the reviews, I'm sure it has amazing heritage etc and the swing seats are very unique but they only serve boring overpriced drinks and no food or snacks. My sister and I were nervous about going in and to be honest should have trusted our gut. The bartender ignored us until he deemed it time to order and then mumbled to us if we'd like to order and because we weren't ready he said alot of what sounded like rude and unfriendly things to himself and then gossiped to what seemed to be a regular at the bar and his waitress who also ignored us the entire time. Absolutely avoid if you're not fluent in french because they clearly do not like non locals. This place could be absolutely amazing If they served cocktails, some nibbles and took a genuine interest in the customer, but it's just an unfriendly, soulless and dated place that isn't even trying to be a tourist...

This quirky little spot is a fantastic place. Our group popped in twice (2016)--and each bartender was friendly and fun and welcomed us as we reveled in the swingy and zany decor. We were dressed for a fancy dinner at our hotel around the corner, the staff and patrons tolerated our photo shoot and the bartender patiently walked us through a few characteristic treats on the menu--Brittany Coka and algae liqueur are not to be missed!! I loved the coco gnac gnac. Swinging in a bar and ogling the fantastic decorations in genial company. A little moment of heaven on earth. Visited again 2017 and 2022–still the same amazing place....

La décoration du bar est vraiment atypique et l'aspect collection hétéroclite est sympathique. Malheureusement, le positif s'arrête ici concernant ma venue.

Je suis venu avec un groupe de 7 vacanciers en situation de handicap ainsi qu'un collègue afin de boire un verre un après-midi.

Premièrement, les consommations sont hors de prix. Les sodas sont à 4e les 25cl alors qu'ils sont presque partout ailleurs à 2e la bouteille de 33cl.

Deuxième, le service et la réception donnent l'impression que la direction n'a qu'une seule envie, nous voir partir au plus vite. Tout est expéditif. On nous a par exemple demandé de payer au moment ou nos consommations ont été servies. Je n'avais jamais vu ça. Partout ailleurs, les commerçants ont la décence de vous laisser tranquillement profiter de votre consommation au lieu de venir vous réclamer le paiement comme si vous comptiez partir sans payer.

Pour finir, j'ai demandé à la personne nous ayant servi, un ticket de caisse par personne car nous gérons l'argent de poche de nos vacanciers et avons besoin de tickets de caisses personnels afin de premièrement faire nos comptes, mais également afin de justifier chaque dépense auprès des familles. Nous sommes à Saint-Malo depuis trois semaines et c'est la première fois que l'ont m'a refusé ceci. Selon la serveuse, "la commande ayant été prise en une seule fois, elle ne pouvait sortir qu'un ticket de caisse pour toute la table". Franchement, je pense simplement qu'elle avait la flemme d'aller piocher dans le peu d'amabilité qu'elle avait afin de répondre à ma requête.

En bref, même si le cadre est unique, cet établissement est d'après moi à fuir, sauf si évidement vous aimez être considéré comme un chiffre plutôt que comme...
