Cafe Bagineti on the river — Restaurant in Mtskheta

We arrived around 7.45, before sunset, but maybe it was late for this place. They were out of all salads, and even out of ice for our drinks. We went with the Chicken Soup, which was the best we had in Georgia, and a phenomenal value. There was half a chicken in this soup! Also tried the Dolmas, which were also delicious, but the sauce they served them with was watery and lacked flavor. The BBQ Pork was just OK. Kind of dry and no sauce, etc. The amazing part of this meal was the 1L of red wine for 18 GEL. That's by far the best deal we saw anywhere. When we paid, there was a 10% surcharge for something, maybe service? It wasn't clear or a big deal, but it also was not mentioned anywhere in the menu or elsewhere, so it felt a bit shady, as most restaurants don't add...

I had a Abchazian dish with minced meat, rather small portion but very tasty… also the simple tomato-cucumber salad with fresh herbs from the garden was delicious… and then a nice chocolate cake with ice cream… try the house wine, the red, but even more so, the white are super good… It was very calm, the location near the river is soothing… the staff are very friendly and speak...

Süßes kleines Restaurant direkt am Wasser mit wunderschönem Blick und solider georgischer Küche. Von der nahegelegenen berühmten Kirche sind es nur wenige Gehminuten zu diesem Café. Es liegt direkt am Wasser und hat Sitzplätze im Erdgeschoss, aber auch im ersten Stock, von wo man noch einen besseren Blick hat. Auf der Karte stehen diverse traditionelle georgische Gerichte, wobei bei unserem Besuch nicht alle verfügbar waren (Gerichte mit Aubergine konnten z.B. nicht bestellt werden). Wir haben uns für traditionellen georgischen Salat, überbackene Champignons und Brot, meine Begleitung außerdem für Fleischspieße entschieden. Die Zubereitung hat etwas gedauert, ca. eine halbe Stunde. Geschmeckt hat uns alles lecker, wobei das Brot hätte etwas frischer sein können. Auch das Fleisch hätte noch etwas besser gewürzt sein können. Insgesamt waren wir aber zufrieden. Die Portionsgrößen waren Standard für georgische Verhältnisse und die Preise fair.
