Gasthaus zum "Bier-Adam" — Restaurant in Berchtesgaden

AVOID AT ALL COST - disgusted by the waitress mocking and gossiping about us with another customer! Waited too long to be seated - which wasn’t an issue at all and we waited patiently. Awfully rude waitress appearing to be very RACIST - Waitress were quite indifferent in taking our orders, and walked away without even allowing me to complete my request for 2 sets of additional cutlery. As soon as dishes were served, she did not provide us with additional cutlery, I opted for self-help remedy and request for additional cutlery from another older waitress, who was kind enough to allow me to self-help. (Context: 6 of us had ordered 4 dishes and 1 soup to share. Bearing in mind there is nothing in the menu that prohibits sharing, it only states that there is an additional “cover” cost of €2.) There came this rude waitress shouting as I walk out carrying the extra spoon. I’m not sure what the issue was honestly, but she came shouting with the menu insisting that there is additional charge for the cutlery, and there was a whole commotion as we tried to explain ourselves. WE HAD NO ISSUE WITH THE ADDITIONAL CHARGE. I can read English perfectly fine and I did not disagree with the additional charges. Food was salty and not worth the price - unfortunately I did not take any pictures as our experience was awfully ruined. Waitress was making a fool out of us with other customers, laughing and mocking us behind our backs.

• Uriges Ambiente – durchschnittliches Essen – katastrophale Arbeitsorganisation – sehr nette Bedienung* Das Gasthaus liegt im Zentrum von Berchtesgaden und versprüht, ein uriges bayrisches Ambiente – womit die positiven Aspekte dieser Location erschöpfend aufgezählt sind. Das Essen war im Großen und Ganzen okay aber auch nicht mehr. Die Superlative in den Rezensionen können von mir nicht nachvollzogen werden. Mir wurde ein ordentliches Essen (Schweinebraten mit Semmelknödel und Krautsalat) serviert – so wie ich es schon in anderen Gastronomien bekommen habe. Das Essen war durchschnittlich, hat einen aber auch nicht zum jubeln genötigt. Die Arbeitsorganisation war schlicht und einfach gesagt eine absolute Katastrophe. Wir hatten einen Tisch für 19:30 Uhr reserviert und haben uns erst mal am Eingang die Füße platt gestanden. So haben wir in einer Schlange trotz Reservierung 20 Minuten gewartet, bis sich endlich jemand um uns gekümmert hat . Schließlich haben wir einen Tisch erhalten, der aufgrund der offenen Tür für die Gäste vor dem Restaurant ziemlich zugig war. Das an diesem Abend draußen schon ein wenig kühler war, musste ich mir schließlich meine Jacke anziehen, da es im Restaurant an unserem Tisch einfach zu kalt wurde. Nach 45 Minuten erschien dann die Bedienung, um unsere Bestellung aufzunehmen. Nach weiteren 35 Minuten kam dann unser Essen – aber leider nicht gleichzeitig. Da an diesem Samstagabend für die gesamte Bedienung drinnen und draußen lediglich zwei Kräfte gearbeitet haben, war es schließlich nicht verwunderlich das gefühlt überhaupt nichts geklappt hat. Das Highlight des Abends war unsere Bedienung, die sich trotz bandagiertem Bein die Hacken krumm gelaufen hat. Sie war höflich zuvorkommend und hatte trotz des Stresses immer noch gute Laune. I've been to Germany and Austria a few times, and although it's been over 10 years since my last trip, I still think about this restaurant (it actually just came up this weekend at a party we went to).

Most of the food in this region is good, and well prepared (in my humble opinion), but Bier Adam was a cut above. I remember noticing right away how the food was fresher and more flavorful than even the other excellent options nearby. No small feat in that region.
